"It's Enough To Fry Your Eyeballs."

This 28mm metal model is one of the two miniatures found within packet Future Freedom Fighters 2 by “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” and concludes my mini-project of painting the ‘three main space liberator characters’ from the first episode of the British science fiction television series “Blake’s Seven”.
Having originally, and quite erroneously, undercoated the model with “Vallejo” Heavy Violet, I applied a wash of “Citadel” Nuln Oil to the high-heeled boots of ‘Jenna’ and then re-painted the rest of her outfit with “Vallejo” Heavy Red. Once dry I applied a heavy wash of the “Citadel” Shade Carroburg Crimson to her trousers and top. As I wanted to try and emulate the space smuggler’s outfit from the television episode entitled “Time Squad”, I simply painted her very well detailed belt and top’s collar pendant with a combination of Boltgun metal and Nuln Oil. I used the same method for her teleport bracelet. But as I wanted to give it a ‘brown tinny’ quality, I further washed it with Agrax Earthshade.
I picked out her collar with “Vallejo” Heavy Warmgrey before treating it to a coat of the “Citadel” Shade Druchii Violet. The miniature’s neckline, which is surrounded by multi-coloured petals, was painted using a plethora of “Vallejo” Game Extra Opaque paints such as Heavy Blue, Heavy Green and Heavy Red. All of these areas were then washed using appropriate “Citadel” Shades. I also used “Vallejo” Heavy Khaki to delicately ‘highlight’ the freedom Fighter’s eyelids and Heavy Red for her lips. Finally I went with the combination of Heavy Ochre, “Citadel” Agrax Earthshade and then a dry-brush of more “Vallejo” Heavy Ochre for the smuggler’s hair.
In addition to ‘Jenna Stannis’ I have also been painting the five Federated Security models I delightfully received as this year’s Secret Santa. These “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” miniatures have rather distracted me from the figures I had planned to paint this week. But having applied another black wash to them in order to tone down their charcoal highlights, they are now close to completion.
Indeed, I am have become so enamoured with this range of “sinister retro sci-fi stormtroopers” that I have acquired the company’s Federated Security Starter Set and have already begun painting up the Guard Commander with Balaclava.

    1. Cheers Roger. I actually think she looks far better 'in the flesh' so to speak, as the eyes and lips don't look rectangular as they do in the photos. Anyway she'll be action for this weekend's game along with Blake and Vila. I've just finished the troopers, except the commander, and they'll be posted tomorrow on the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge website and then here on Monday. Take care :-)

    1. Thanks Simon. I actually found I already had a set of three of the balaclava heads on a sprue and was going to try and do some of the Fed Sec with them. But once attached I found the bare heads made the figures taller than when they wore the face helmets - which looked a little odd in my books so I swapped them back. The Commander mini though is clearly sculpted with the balaclava head in mind, so works well.

    1. Many thanks Michael. Much appreciated. They are cracking models and Crooked Dice's latest sculptor Mister Veingart is photogenic in his figures. Great company and great rules.

    1. Thanks Dave. Unfortunately all this "Blake's Seven" goodness is badly distracting me from my Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge goals. But at least the five Federated Security will count when I submit them :-)

  6. Jenna has come out really good, Simon. And your security guards aren't bad either. Nice choice for the commander's head. The balaclava look works well.

    1. Cheers Bryan. Glad to finally get her done. She had a lot of fine detail to pick out and tbh I found that a bit intimidating. The Fed Sec are wonderful sculpts and reasonably simple to paint to boot :-)

    1. Thanks Bob. Jenna's certainly good enough for the tabletop and this weekend's game. Fed Sec are now finished as well and off to Curt on the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge blog for tomorrow.

    1. Cheers Zabadak, most kind. The crew are a colourful bunch :-) The Fed Sec needed a bit work before I'd finished them but they're done now.

    1. Thanks CWheeler. Much appreciated indeed. Unfortunately once you get hooked by CD you'll find there's so many you have to buy :-) I'm hoping to have quite a few of their minis painted up over the next few weeks so hopefully they'll be something here to keep your interest.

  10. Thank goodness that I never watched Blake's Seven. If I had seen it then I suspect there would be even more figures from Crooked Dice that I would just *have* to buy!
