Bureau for Paranormal Research And Defense - WIP - Part Two

Hellbaby WIP - Green trousers and tan shirt are finished. Lobster Johnson WIP - Black highlights done
I have managed to get quite a few of these “Heroclix” Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense miniatures progressed this week, even if it has simply been a case of removing a few more of them from their ‘clicky’ bases and super-gluing them to a 25mm “Games Workshop” one.

I am quite close to finishing Hellbaby having spent more time than I cared too sorting out all the belt straps on his green trousers. Fortunately they’re now finished and just his belt buckle needs correcting and then washing with “Citadel” Badab Black. The brown wash on his shirt has come out a little darker than I’d hoped. But I can live with it. I have also tidied up the red on his tail and ‘Right Hand of Doom’. Having dry-brushed Lobster Johnson charcoal prior to a “Citadel” Nuln Oil wash, I am somewhat tempted to ‘break up’ his all-black attire with a dark brown belt. But such a move would be a break from his ‘official’ look…
Kraus WIP - Bullet-proof vest and containment suit are finished. Daimio WIP - Brown boots done
Johann Kraus is also close to completion as I’ve finished both his brown body armour and tan containment suit. I just need to finish off the experienced medium’s helmet. As I hoped now I don’t plan to submit any of these B.P.R.D. models to the Analogue hobbies Painting Challenge until next weekend I have had the time to repaint Captain Ben Daimio’s boots, and break up his brown leather jacket with a tan holster belt.
B.P.R.D. WIP - The final three members have been re-based and undercoated
Finally, as aforementioned, Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman and Roger the Homunculus have been re-based and undercoated. Both Abe and Roger actually proved somewhat difficult to glue to the smaller 25mm round base as their stance needed to be slightly shortened in order for them to properly fit without their bare feet significantly hanging over the edge. I am also in two minds with the lime green undercoat colour I have chosen for the amphibious agent as his pre-painted model (based upon the motion picture) is much bluer in colour. Yet the comic books portray him as a green-hued humanoid.

  1. Progressing nicely Bk! All good stuff, one question where's the big fella himself?
As for Abe Sapien, go with your favourite look. Also other companies apart from GW make 30mm bases.

    1. Thanks Bob. I've been painting the big fella as well and should have some WIP shots of him for next time. Abe will probably stay green now otherwise I think he'll clash with Roger a bit too much. I'm afraid I have OCD when it comes to basing and like my 28mm on 25mm round bases whenever I can. But thanks for the thought. I just had to spend five minutes holding the little fellas in place with superglue and green-stuff :-)

  2. looking forward to seeing these finished. However, I does remind me that I have a big box of DC heroclix that I have to look at at some point....

    1. Cheers CW. Plenty of "Heroclix" on the go at the mo. Please don't post up any "DC Comics" models on your site though - I find it such an inspirational blog that I always fancy doing whatever it is you're painting!!! Let me finish my BPRD first ;-)

  3. I always like to see your work, Simon. You showcase such a diverse range of figures, most of which I really like (still hate those Mk1 Cybermen!). I look forward to seeing these figures finished. As for your OCD on 25mm diameter bases, I fully understand. I like all my bases to be the same size. I don't mind downsizing to 20mm diameter bases for figures like children. I'm not so keen on fitting figures on larger sized bases but sometimes it has to be done. If a figure can fit on a 25mm base, even if their toes stick over the edge, then great. But it really depends on the size of the figure, doesn't it?

    1. Thanks Bryan. Much appreciated. I fear with my diversity of miniature subjects however comes the cost of flitting from project to project with many left half-done at best. As to bases I can't even stand the toes sticking over the edges I'm afraid. I was actually a bit disappointed with the Hellboy mini for this range because he didn't require a 40mm base and almost glued him onto one just to emphasise his great reach. But he'd have looked a little silly with all that space around him. As you rightly say, it depends upon the size of the figure.

  4. Always good to see others making progress in their projects, even if I haven't a clue what it is !

    1. But that's the beauty of our hobby, Zabadak... and certainly what keeps me coming back to the blogs I follow ;-)

  5. Wow - these are all "clix" figures, right? They're a lot better sculpted than I imagined.

    1. Yes. Seven of them of them are from a boxed "Horrorclix" set which includes both Hellbaby and Hellboy. Whilst Lobster Johnson was sold separately. They are very nice sculpts C6 and some come with some great scenic bases which I've re-based as objectives.

  6. Go for the greener-comix version for Abe. Whilst the (1st) film was great, I still prefer Mignola's original images.

    Great work as ever sir.
