“…The Burning Hand Of Overdue Justice.”

"Taste justice, imposters!"
This 28mm plastic model of Lobster Johnson is made by “Wizkids. It is model 036 from the Indy “Heroclix” range. The 1930’s New York City vigilante was created by Mike Mignola in 1999 and has featured in a number of solo comic book adventures published by “Dark Horse Comics”, as well as fought alongside Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

Unsurprisingly given the miniature’s all-black pre-paint, I undercoated Lobster with “Citadel” Abaddon Black before giving the figure a dry-brush of “Vallejo” Heavy Charcoal. Having next washed the model with “Citadel” Nuln Oil I then repainted the crimefighter’s boots with more Abaddon Black. Johnson’s distinctive chest emblem was picked out using “Vallejo” Heavy Blue and washed with “Citadel” Asurmen Blue. The metal studs on his costume and his pistol were painted using “Citadel” Ironbreaker. This Layer was then washed with more Nuln Oil. Finally I gave his goggles a coat of “Vallejo” Heavy Ochre before applying some “Citadel” Agrax Earthshade over them.
Roger and Liz WIPs - The Homunculus's body armour and 'flesh' have been washed. Whilst Liz's flames are done
I still have a handful of "Heroclix" B.P.R.D. operatives to finish, but have managed to make some good progress this week on Roger the Homunculus and decided upon a 'quick and dirty' flame colour scheme for Liz Sherman. I was actually in two minds about whether to paint the pyrokinetic's flames blue (as depicted in the 2004 "Hellboy" movie) but in the end I've gone with one similar to the "Wizkids" pre-paint.
Man verses Dinosaur WIPs - Plenty of work yet to be done on all three of these "Wizkids" miniatures
I would also like to express my gratitude to both Roger from "Rantings From Under The Wargames Table" and Bryan from "Vampifan's World Of The Undead" for kindly sending me some much-appreciated new additions to my "Heroclix" plastic mountain. Being in a B.P.R.D. mood I have already based and started work on a Rasputin model. But many more of the models are in various stages for preparation, especially a number of "Horrorclix".

In addition I have got back out a number of models which sadly fell by the wayside in and around the start of the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge towards the end of 2014. Hopefully I can soon have this wonderful sculpt of "DC Comics" Sergeant Rock finished soon, as well as this rather large figure of Jack Kirby's Devil Dinosaur; which literally dwarves the 60mm round base he's super-glued to.

  2. Good work on all of them, Simon, but especially on Lobster and Roger. I've never seen Devil Dinosaur before but it sure is an impressive looking figure. I look forward to seeing your new Horrorclix paint jobs.

  3. Errr hello, this is Roger, (I'm sure Vampi will let you off), I do really like Lobster that is a smashing 30's hero figure and a smashing paintjob (love the yellow goggles, wonderfully done as usual) Not sure that Homunculus really goes with the name Roger though! I think "Awesome Roger" works better,( better than Andy anyway!).
Great paintjob on Roger though, He'd make a good fellow GI to go along with Rogue Trooper, despite his rather unusual under shorts (We real Rogers would never wear stuff like that I assure you!, except at the weekend of course).

Cheers "Awesome" Roger (yes I like that!).

    1. So sorry Roger, I have amended my thanks Ref Vampifan's comment to Bryan as opposed to using your marvellous name :-) Very happy with Lobster and the Homunculus (which I've since finished). I have actually been looking at the three-figure G.I. pack "Warlord Games" now sell, and was thinking of using them as the fabulous foursome Rogue, Helm, Gunnar and Bagman. I did wonder why you kept your legs covered by the table when we met at Salute last weekend :-)

  4. Lobster finished, yeehah! Lovely work Bk. Really like his goggles.
The other W.I.P.s are coming along nicely. A B.P.R.D. batrep would be an awesome idea dude!?
See how nice this community is, gifting you mini's, top dudes all round. I'd love to see your Horrorclix paintjobs too.

    1. Thanks Bob. I just have three more to paint (not counting Hellboy) and then they'll be on for a game (using Hellbaby). Once Big Red is done though I rather fancy doing a short campaign using them... just need lots of monsters for them to face such as their famous foes, the Frogs :-)

Roger and Bryan are indeed outstanding individuals with whom I am extremely fortunate to have met through blogging. Both do though cost me an arm and a leg as well though by making me aware of some fantastic mini ranges I would otherwise be blistfully oblivious of :-)

  5. Nice one. I really like the Lobster paintjob.
I bought some Citadel snow yesterday - and some of the textured snow paint, after the manager of GW Darlington explained it to me - so I hope to try it this weekend on an odd mini.

    1. Cheers Roy. I haven't tried the textured snow paint myself so I look forward to seeing what you don with that. Presumably you're meant to snow flock the areas you texture? I think your Mongols from the Steppes will look awesome with snow as their basing.

    2. I've painted up a Dixon Miniatures Oni figure (Japanese "Legends of Nippon") and used some of the textured paint. I'll photograph the model pre-flock. Calling it textured is a bit of a joke, to be honest its more like a paste - but it does look like snow on its own. I've based the model with coarse talus grit (from Minibits) and the uneven surface has helped to make the 'snow paint' look more natural. I'll have to do some 'dry' testing with the flock to see where best to place it, in relation to the snow paint.

    3. It sounds very encouraging Roy and I look forward to seeing your Oni figure when finished. I've not bought any "Dixons" myself, that I'm aware of at least, but their sculpts always seem to me to be a rather painter friendly. Don't go encouraging me to get into another manufacturer will you ;-)
