"Chewie, We're Home."

"Never tell me the odds."
This 28mm plastic model of General Solo is made by “Wizards Of The Coast” and is model 15 from the Master Of The Force expansion for the manufacturer’s Star Wars Miniatures Game. In order to ‘cover-up’ the miniature’s pre-paint scheme I initially undercoated the entire figure with a layer of “Vallejo” White and then painted his trousers with Charred Brown. I then washed this area with “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade.
"The Force Awakens"
Han’s shirt was initially undercoated with a couple of thinned down coats of “Vallejo” White before I ‘inked’ it with some watered-down Strong Tone Quickshade in order to create some dirty shading. His flesh was painted with a combination of “Vallejo” Heavy Skintone and “Citadel” Reikland Fleshshade. I then added some highlights with more “Vallejo” Heavy Skintone. Finally the aging Rebel’s hair was created using an initial application of “Heavy Bluegrey” followed by a wash of “Citadel” Nuln Oil, a dry-brush of more “Vallejo” Heavy Bluegrey and finally some White highlights.
At the Earth's core WIPs - Just some basic undercoats with some charcoal shading on 'Peter Cushion'
These three terrifically charismatic 28mm metal miniatures from “Antediluvian Miniatures” have been quickly prepped, based and undercoated. Obviously the two male models are clearly inspired by the 1976 movie “At The Earth’s Core” starring Doug McClure and Peter Cushing. Whilst the fur-clad female is Raquel Welch from the 1966 'dinosaur flick' "One Million Years B.C." The company also do a smashing range of ‘Crystal Palace Dinosaurs’; all essential purchases once I’ve completed the company’s adventurers.

  1. I'm just not used to seeing Han with grey hair but it's all part of the aging process. Nicely done, Simon. I recently saw those three Antediluvian Miniatures on the TMP forum where they were fully painted and looking superb. I like them a lot but can't find a use for them. Although, thinking about it, I could use Peter Cushion (sic) as Doctor Who and the other two as his companions. Shades of Leela for the cavewoman, huh? The idea isn't too far-fetched as Peter Cushing did play Doctor Who in two feature films doing battle against the Daleks.

    1. Thanks Bryan. I did debate whether or not to paint Han's hair grey or go with the miniature's original brown colour. But seeing as it was Harrison Ford's appearance in "The Force Awakens" which led me to buy Solo and Chewie and paint them up I thought I'd stick to my original idea.

I also thought about using 'Cushion' as Doctor Who, but actually have the "Black Tree Design" Cushing model somewhere. Besides "At The Earth's Core" is one of my all-time favourite films :-)

  2. Han and Chewie look aces.

I've been sorely tempted by the Antediluvian Miniatures stuff myself. The fur-clad lass strikes me more as Raquel Welch from 1 Million Years BC than Ms Munro.

    1. Cheers Finch, and you're quite correct as I've just seen that "Antediluvian Miniatures" do indeed refer to her as Raquel Scotch, so clearly she's from "One Million Years BC" not "At The Earth's Core". I've edited my posting according. Though I'll still be calling her Caroline ;-)

    2. I got the Raquel vibe as well initially on seeing her. Good call.

    3. Sadly "One Million Years B.C." is one of the few dinosaur films I don't like all that much. But this is a cracking model nonetheless.

    1. It certainly does take some getting used to Dai. But I'll soon get used to him once he's been in a BatRep or two :-)

    1. Thanks Chico. Coupled with your stunning "Star Wars" paintjobs of late and the teaser for "The Force Awakens" I thought it simply had to be done.

  6. No! Han cannot get old!
My reality is caving in dude.
Lovely job on the Star Wars duo Bk!
I really like the old fella with the brolly, I can imagine him fencing a zombie with it. Are these a pack or can you get them seperately?

  9. Great work on Solo and Chewie, there Simon, can I ask one question though, what do you water down your Quickshade with? is it Turps perhaps. Next those three figures at the bottom are fantastic, I can see I'll have to get hold of them at some point. I love all the Amicus versions of HG Wells classics but "At the earths core" is my favourite, shame it's Raquel not Caroline but I wouldn't have said no to either of them in their day (to be honest I probably wouldn't now!).

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thanks Roger. Much appreciated. I water my Quickshade down with... water. Just a drop on the palette and away I go - nothing special I'm afraid. I too love "At The Earth's Core" so I'm now hoping that a Dia will come out at some point. I know the company have some "Warlords of Atlantis" planned next, so I'll be cracking on with these figures soon as I want to try and get their dinosaurs too... I know I know, another project ;-)

  10. The Dino's are gorgeous too and really tempting (even at £25.00 each!) I've left a comment on the page asking for a Dia figure myself. We might be going to London for a couple of nights for our anniversary and if so I hope to go and see the real things in Crystal Palace Park (another thing of my bucket list I hope).

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Yes their dinosaurs are rather expensive but because they replicate the Crystal Palace ones they're somewhat unique from the norm, and huge as well from what I remember at Salute 2015. I've not been to the Park myself but is certainly a place I plan to go.

    1. Thanks Simon. Han was a nice model to paint, if not a little soft on the facial details. As a huge of fan of Doug McClure and Peter Cushing, you can bet their models won't be on my painting table too long :-)
