"Commence Coordinated Threat Neutralization. Alpha Threat Class."

"Reconfiguring for new command. Priority override."
This 28mm plastic “Wizkids” model of an OMAC operative is miniature number 83 from the DC Comics “Heroclix” Collateral Damage range. This cyborg was one of many humans transformed by a virus into living machines in order to destroy all beings with superpowers. The OMACs were created by Greg Rucka, having been based upon a Jack Kirby character with the same name, and first appeared in “The OMAC Project” in June 2005.

To cover the model’s pre-painted colour scheme the figure was initially given an undercoat of “Vallejo” Gunmetal Blue before being washed with “Citadel” Nuln Oil. The ‘cape-killer’ was then slowly dry-brushed with more “Vallejo” Gunmetal Blue before his cyclopean eye was painted with Heavy Red and washed with “Citadel” Bloodletter. His chest eye was simply ‘picked out’ with “Vallejo” White before also being washed with the “Citadel” glaze Bloodletter.
Brother Eye OMACs WIPS - These eight cyborgs require both washing and dry-brushing.
Having finished this ‘test’ model and being rather happy with both the miniature’s sculpt and its final look, I’ve bought enough additional figures from the American E-Store “Troll And Toad” so as to create myself a sizeable gang of Brother Eye’s minions. Having already re-based these metallic assassins, as some of the more 'experienced' figures came on flight stands rather than 'clicky bases', I have subsequently undercoated them all in preparation for the cybernetically armoured mechanoids to be washed with some "Citadel" Nuln Oil…
Bat Sentry WIP - It is early days yet for this robotic variant of the Batmobile.
In addition I also managed pick up a large Bat Sentry “Heroclix” model. This wonderful-looking robot, which can also transform itself into the Batmobile, is almost 80mm in height and required a 60mm stand. The original “Wizkids” pre-painted plastic figure’s arms are actually poseable, but somewhat lethal with their sharp pointed ends. As a result I’ve glued one limb down into the base and allowed the “Citadel” Abaddon Black paint to ‘stick’ the other arm in a far less dangerous (to the unsuspecting wargamer) position.

  1. A simple but very effective colour scheme for OMAC. He and his brethren make up a dangerous looking force. Great stuff, Simon.

I've never seen the Bat Sentry before but he looks mightily impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing all of these WIPs completed.

    1. Thanks Bryan. I'm rather pleased with the OMAC, and a horde of them should prove to be an imposing sight on the tabletop, once I've finished painting them. I've been after the Bat Sentry for a good while but I've simply never seen it on sale in the UK for a reasonable price. In fact I still ended up paying a small fortune for it with "Troll And Toad", but hopefully as you'll see its a rather formidable-sized mini.

  2. I like the look of that OMAC. Really nice, fluid lines to the figure.

Oh man, that Bat Sentry figure is seriously scary looking and it's huge. I wouldn't want to mess with him!

    1. Cheers Anne. There's a couple of casting flaws on the sculpt, but its not too visible once painted - and all of the models have it. It is a nice-looking figure though. Glad you like the Bat Sentry, its one of those few "Heroclix" models I've been after for ages.

  4. So, I guess that the OMAC is DC's version of the Marvell Sentinel, right? I hadn't heard of them before...

    1. Hi C6, to be blunt yes :-) Though these fellows are actually normal humans who have been cybernetically implanted (usually against their will or knowledge). I'm a big fan of both, though these only appeared in 2005, so don't have the history the awesome Sentinels have :-)

  5. It never ceases to amaze me the sheer number of different and varied ideas that comic books have for new, or reinvented, characters.
I suppose new, real-life technological advances help, and bringing in new artists and writers, but after all these decades comic books are still being original with their ideas is really amazing.
Well, it seems amazing to me - A person with very little experience with comic books.

    1. Cheers Roy. As you know I do like my comic books and "Heroclix" have managed to come up with some very good models for most of my fave heroes. If you want to dip your toe in the world of comic books then I heartily recommend this humble blog: http://thebrownbagaeccb.blogspot.co.uk- I post on it daily ;-)

    1. Thanks Bob. They should prove to be a nice shiny tabletop force once completed. The Bat Sentry is a truly splendid model and I'm really looking forward to getting him on a rooftop or two ;-)

  7. cracking stuff as always Simon, I loved that OMAC when you first showed him to us, and a gaggle of them should be most impressive.

And the "Bat Transformer", is a smashing looking beast, I bet he cost an arm and a leg!

    Cheers Roger.

    3. LOL :-) The Bat Sentry was a bit expensive admittedly. But should prove to be a rather nice addition to my "Heroclix" 'Bat-Family' and in the long run if I can get several games out of him then he was worth the investment.

    1. Thanks Dai. Now I've got the 'test piece' finished I'm rather keen to get the rest of these guys finished. The "Vallejo" Gunmetal Blue is probably my favourite paint :-)

  9. Whilst I'm not familiar with the OMAC cyborgs, the Bat Sentinel is from the Kingdom Come miniseries, correct? Like the colour scheme for the 'borgs - very nicely done. That figure would also look quite good as a statue in an Atlantis-like ruined city, possibly in weathered bronze. Or maybe as a construct for Frostgrave? Or alternate Argonauts in 7TV? So many potential uses for a figure I've previously overlooked...might have to pick a couple up. Roughly how big are they, Simon?

    1. The OMACs are 41mm from foot to the top of their mohicans, Jez. I actually really struggled to find any of these in the UK, and when they did show up they were £2.50+. "Troll And Toad" sell them for $0.59 which is less than 50p to my mind.

Speaking of the OMACs invading Atlantis etc they did actually try and destroy Wonder Woman's Amazonian Island during "The Omac Project". Well worth searching for if you like big battles, and has a cracking cover as memory serves.
