"It's Accelerating. How Long Before A Medical Team Arrives?"

"Good grief! It wasn't like that an hour ago."
This 28mm metal model of a Failed Experiment Minion is from code SKU: 26 and is made by “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio”. The figure is one of several similar miniatures I am currently progressing in order to represent some of the hapless staff of botanist Harrison Chase, from the 1976 British Science Fiction television serial "Doctor Who And The Seeds Of Doom".

Having first pinned and superglued a Human ‘Hard Hat’ Minion Head to the torso, as well as a Failed Experiment Arm to his sleeve, I gave the 'doomed' Chase Manor Security Guard an undercoat of “Vallejo” Heavy Blue. I then picked out the ‘infected’ plant-zombie’s zipper and name badge clipper with “Citadel” Iron Breaker before washing both these metallic areas and the chap’s headwear and jumpsuit with Nuln Oil. The goon’s tendril was painted using a combination of Vallejo “Heavy Grey”, Heavy Red, “Citadel” Thrakka Green and Carroburg Crimson, and “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade. This heavily-suckered vegetable growth was then dry-brushed with more “Vallejo” Heavy Grey. The former human’s flesh was painted predominantly using Heavy Skintone and some watered down “Citadel” Reikland Fleshshade. Although for the 'infected' hand and part of his face I used Vallejo “Heavy Grey” and "Citadel" Thrakka Green.
A.S.P. Trooper WIPs - The Gold Centurion's armour will be be muted by a Strong Tone Quickshade wash
In addition I've been working my way through my growing collection of "Nexus Miniatures" and been concentrating on some of the company's A.S.P. Trooper models. These sculpts are wonderfully reminiscent of the Cylons from the 1978 American Science Fiction television series "Battlestar Galactica". I've a number of such figures already undercoated, ready for the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. But as I had already started to paint a few of the robots up, in both silver and gold armour, I thought I would use them as test pieces. I have even started to try and finish another of the first of my 'faceless' Colonial Warriors using a converted NX15 (D-Ranger Codenamed Joey) torso and one of the D-Ranger Helmets from code NX16.
Dust Tactics WIPS - These three models have been gathering dust for many months
Finally, as my long-awaited and highly-anticipated Second Wave of miniatures from the "Dust: Operation Babylon" kickstarter has finally arrived, I have started to recommence work on a small number of my "Dust Tactics" models, starting with these Allied Grim Reapers.

  1. Good stuff Simon, I do like those cylons, though the colonials head seems a little "chunky" might just be the picture. Not heard of dust tactics but then as you know I just skip through any "kickstarters", and there are an awful lot of them these days. Quite nice figures though.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Cheers Roger. I'm hoping to have a few of the Cylons finished over the weekend, as now I've got a good idea which parts of them are armour, they're rather nice to paint. The Colonial Warrior's head is a little "chunky" on account of their bare heads being a little over-sized to begin with. Still they shouldn't look too out of scale on the tabletop surrounded by the rest of the range. I'm a huge fan of the "Dust Tactics" range. But the terribly run Kickstarter has certainly dented my enthusiasm for them. However these Grim Reapers are nice models.

  2. As always, you have lots of nice eye candy for us to enjoy. Good to see another Failed Experiment Minion finished. The Cylons are coming along nicely. However, your trio of Dust tactics Battlesuits are quite exceptional. All I learnt about Dust Tactics came from Zombie Adam's blog - http://theleadwillwalktheearth.blogspot.co.uk/

    1. Thanks Bryan. I'm trying to get my tabletop clear before the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge, and am well aware my "Seeds Of Doom" Zombicide game is well over due too!! The Cylons aren't too far from completion tbh. Glad you like the Battlesuits. I have plenty more Nazi Zombies for them to fight too... and another blog for me to follow too ;-)

  3. The minon looks great now that he's finished and the cylons are looking good too, in their all but finished state. Knowing next to nothing about "Dust" I'm quite intrigued by these latest additions to your collection too.

    1. Cheers Joe. Potentially I've lots of "Dust Tactics" postings to come. Its just a question of when I have the time to get them into my painting queue.

  4. Massive fan of battlestar Galactica, so love seeing these models, I've been eying them up on the inter webs myself so interested in seeing this set complete. Come on BK lets have that batrep for the seeds of doom, too much teasing! ;)

    1. Delighted you like the "Battlestar Galactica" minis my friend. Having painted up Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer previously I'm keen to give them some cylons to shoot at :-) Yes I am somewhat behind with my BatReps sadly...

    1. Thanks Finch. I much prefer the original series over the reboot, and certainly you can't beat the Cylons.

  8. Nice work, Simon. Good to see another of your failed experiments completed and I do like those Cylons. Whilst not Canon, i'm curious to see what they'd look like in other metallic colours. And those Dust Tactics battlesuits are rather nice.

    1. Cheers Jez. I've finished two of the Cylons since posting this and although their silver armour is a little darker than I'd have hoped for, on account of the wash, they look pretty good imho. Plenty more "Dust tactics" stuff coming soon too.

    1. Thanks Sean. I'm just finishing off the gold Centurion, along with three Colonial Warriors and then have six normal Cylons sat based and primed, ready for the start of the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge.

    1. Cheers Dai. He is a very poorly minion :-)

Lots of "Battlestar Galactica" work planned for this month, as I hope to finish all my appropriate "Nexus Miniatures" before the year is out. Three cylons are already done and just waiting to be posted...
