28mm ZTV2 Battle Report: Lobster Johnson, Molly Hayes, Moon Knight & Doctor Who Verses Rasputin, The Joker, Travis & The Grey Hulk - Act Three

“The story so far… Grigori Rasputin and his 'fiendish followers' have been cornered in the dimension of the Ogdru Jahad by a band of heroes led by Lobster Johnson. Having already lost Federation Space Commander Travis to the fists of Moon Knight, the Mad Monk realises he must appeal to his mighty masters if the Dark Gods' latest nefarious plan is not to be foiled..."

28mm ZTV2 Battle Report: Lobster Johnson, Molly Hayes, Moon Knight & Doctor Who Verses Rasputin, The Joker, Travis & The Grey Hulk - Act Two

The Fifth Turn of Act Two started with a “Continuity Error” creeping into the show’s filming, as the Weakened status marker on Rasputin was placed upon Molly Hayes instead. Inspired by this devious move the mad monk then utilized his Leader(2) Special Effect in order to additionally activate the nearby Joker without the need to spend a plot point, and charged into Lobster Johnson. A quick slash of the Villainous Star’s Crystal Knife and the New York City vigilante was down for the count. Cackling evilly to himself Grigori claimed three plot points on account of the Flamboyant Agent’s untimely demise and moved East towards the back of Moon Knight…

Sensing the approach of the silver-haired Timelord, the Clown Prince of Crime spun around and started to shoot away at Doctor Who with his Jokerfish pistols. The time traveller received a +2 to his defence because he was in Hard Cover behind some boulders. However that still didn’t save him from being struck by a bullet and getting wounded. Meanwhile the Grey Hulk continued to try and pound Moon Knight into the ground but found the Fist of Khonshu to be too fast for him.
MOON KNIGHT BATTLES THE GREY HULK
The Finale’s opening saw the production team attempt to employ some “Colour Separation Overlay” into the scene and as a result Doctor Who was able to become Invisible (for the Turn). Using this Special Effect to his advantage, the Crackpot Inventor rather uncharacteristically charged into the Joker. But despite his punches counting as an ‘attack in the rear’ due to his inconspicuousness, the Timelord failed to land a solid blow on his giggling opponent. Having used her Hard Special Effect to remove the Weakened Status she received earlier, Molly Hayes used her Luck to overcome any Fear of the Grey Hulk and charged the Marauding Monster. A flurry of punches later and Bruce Banner’s alter-ego was not only Weakened himself, but wounded… and then knocked out by a well-placed blow courtesy of Moon Knight; the Fist of Khonshu had out boxed the Hulk!?!
MOLLY HAYES AND MOON KNIGHT BRING THE GREY HULK DOWN
Turn Two of the Finale allowed Rasputin’s cast to get a bit “Gung Ho!” and the mad monk used his “immediate move action” to charge into the back of a disadvantaged Moon Knight. Once again Grigori’s Crystal knife flashed out and yet another of the heroes fell to the ground… Sensing that victory was in his hands and that the Dark Gods would soon smile upon him, Rasputin then moved into (base-to-base) contact with Molly Hayes and savagely slashed at the little girl. However Princess Power was able to dodge the Villainous Star and look to seek her revenge upon him in the following turn. Meanwhile it was now all up to the Joker to dispatch Doctor Who with a fishy slap across the face and win the day for the baddies. Amazingly however the Evil Mastermind was unable to land a telling blow upon the time traveller. The battle was not over yet…
RASPUTIN STABS MARC SPECTOR IN THE BACK WHILST DOCTOR WHO FACES THE JOKER
Turn Three saw “Fan Favourite” Moon Knight make a shock return to the show (with 1 Health) near to Doctor Who. Charging a speechless Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime wasn’t laughing now, the Fist of Khonshu socked the Dark Knight’s arch-nemesis in the jaw and then made a beeline for where Rasputin was menacing Molly Hayes. However just like that the programme was finished and the end credits started rolling.
FAN FAVOURITE MOON KNIGHT MAKES A SURPRISE RETURN IN ORDER TO WIN THE DAY
Deciding that Rasputin would favour flight rather than tackle both the Strongarm Molly Hayes and the Action Hero Moon Knight, we decided to bring the “7TV2” game to a close and calculate the Victory Points. The despicable Villains received 1 VP for the Objective Marker taken by the Grey Hulk and an impressive 6 VP’s for removing both ‘The Lobster’ and Marc Spector (albeit he made a most welcome reappearance) from play. The Heroes on the other hand received a telling 4 VP’s for the Objective Markers which they acquired throughout the show and 8 VP’s for defeating Bruce Banner’s alter-ego, Space Commander Travis and the Joker; earning the Forces of Good and Justice a Decisive Victory, for now at least…

    1. Um... Hopefully you mean it HASN'T disappointed Gordon ;-)

    2. It's shame that my gaming group hasn't the patience to learn a new game.

    3. Sorry to hear that DaftPhully as this ruleset continues to grow on me now I've started to forget how the 1st edition played and become more accustomed to the 2nd. As skirmish rules go its great imho.

    4. I read through 7tv2, and it seems like they made it a little too simple.

    5. Yes, I entirely agree DaftPhully, which is why its taken so long for me to finally get my head around how the new rules work. I like the Countdown Cards enormously and the way Turn's now work, plus Plot Points. But I do miss the sheer variety of statistics/SFX characters could obtain and many of the other rules. However I'll be sticking with "7TV2" for the near future at least, and ultimately reckon I'll end up playing with some sort of combination of the two.

  3. So good prevails over evil... as it should do! Most enjoyable batrep, Simon. Rasputin did very well and I did think he could turn the tide in favour of the forces of evil, but once Moon Knight made a dramatic return there could only be one possible conclusion. The cinematic special effects like "continuity error" and "colour separation overlay" certainly worked well and added a lot to the feel of the game. What a great game and a great set of rules.

    1. Much appreciated Bryan. It certainly wasn't looking good for the Heroes for a while and I'm not sure Doctor Who would have survived another round of fisticuffs with the Joker. The Countdown Cards really are an excellent improvement over the old Event Cards, and I'm delighted you're enjoying the ruleset yourself.

    1. Cheers Andy. It was a great game and once I'd gotten used to the new rules etc it proved a very fast-moving contest. More to come I hope...

    1. Thanks Michael. I certainly didn't see this as being such a close BatRep after the First Act, and I always see a game hinging upon the turn of a single card late in the game or a last minute roll of the dice as a good sign of a great ruleset.

  7. Love this BATREP. I've played 7TV once before with my good friend Andy and I loved it and plan to play again. Its helpful that I can create a cast from my ATZ figures.

If I can be cheeky, I am new to all this blog stuff and I have started my own blog and posted my first BATREP for ATZ. I have posted a link to it below and would love to know your thoughts.

    1. Cheers Damon, and I'm glad you've enjoyed it. Don't worry about being "cheeky" that's what this blogging lark is all - advertising what fellow gamers are up to and what their thoughts are on models, scenery and rulesets. The only thing I would say about your blog is I couldn't see any Followers button, so I'd put one in and then the likes of Vampifan, Bob and Brummie (as well as some of the other Zed-heads who visit me) will be visiting your "ATZ" blog regularly too. You might also try the Board Of The Living Lead too and say a hello if you haven't already.

    1. Thanks and merely a momentary incapacitation for 'the Lobster' I assure you Finch. He'll be back as I hope to do a series of "7TV2" BatReps using a Hellbaby cast in the near future.

  9. Great finish Simon, and just as it look like all was lost, the heroes came through. Just like a real life TV show.

    Excellent, Cheers Roger.

  10. Very entertaining, Simon. I really must give these rules a try, so there might be a MOTU batrep at some point, as they appear well suited to the show and I really should do something with these figures I keep making...

    1. Ahh, but what figures are you making? time to tell the world, me old mate I've told all, now it's your turn, stop leaving us in limbo.

Sorry to hijack your thread Simon.

P.S. Myles rang last night and cut a long story short, I am now going to Salute after all, so see you both there! (Jez you said you were buying the tea asI recall?).

      Cheers Roger.

    2. I think Masters Of The Universe would be well-suited to "7TV2" Jez, or at least the "7th Voyages" ruleset. I'm thoroughly looking forward to your MotU minis and it'd be great to see you using your figures for a BatRep... Perhaps it'll help encourage Roger to finally do one after two years of my asking ;-)

    3. No need to worry hijacking one of my threads, Roger... you do it so regularly these days that I've gotten used to it :-P

That is absolutely splendid news about Salute and I look forward to catching up with you in person once again. It'll be very interesting to see what you've bought come lunch-time too :-)

    4. It'll be very interesting to see what you've bought come lunch-time too :-)

Hopefully not much as there isn't much I really need at the moment (perhaps a couple of big cats from EM4). This is Myles' idea and he's the one with the money burning a hole in his pocket at the moment! as for a batrep perhaps if you hadn't set the bar so blooming high!!

      Cheers Roger.

    5. Well whatever you buy Roger, I'm sure I'll find them interesting as Jez pays for the cuppa and biccies ;-) Hopefully I'll have some "Prodos" Aliens to show you, as having just bought a box or three of "AVP", following Bryan's generous "Horrorclix" gift, I'm well in the H.R. Giger mood presently.

  11. To be honest there are a couple of bits and pieces I've got my eye on, but I can see we'll need room in the rucksack for "X-wing" and "Dystopian boats".

Hopefully there might be room for a Antideluvian "Caroline Munro".

    1. I certainly hope someone is selling "Antediluvian Miniatures" there like last time. Though they still don't seem to have any of their excellent-looking hominids in their store yet, and they showed off the greens for them long before their Caroline Munro sculpt. Fingers crossed.

    2. Patience is a virtue, Roger, so you'll have to wait until the weekend for the big reveal. And i did say I'd be buying the teas, so I shall. I don't remember saying anything about biccies though...
*hijack over - please return your tray tables to the upright position*

    3. Biccies are an optional extra Jez :-)

  12. That was quite...stunning (ha, ha!). Well done to Molly especially for not being intimidated by someone larger than herself.

    1. Thanks Hugh :-) Molly was very impressive, albeit somewhat quiet in this final instalment. Doubtless because she'd used up all her gadgets in the previous two episodes.

    1. You're very welcome Evan. The cast are a bit contrived as I simply wanted to try out as many of the types of Star and Co-Star as I could muster. But hopefully you get the impression as to just how insane and flexible the rules can be.

  14. Great finish to a brilliant set of reports Simon. They have shown off the rules very nicely.
I hope you involve some zombies again soon dude, that would be great.

    1. Cheers Bob. Much appreciated. I do have a BatRep coming up soon using the "Zombicide" rules. But it won't be incorporating zeds in it. However I do hope to play some "Marvel Zombies" soon, so hopefully that'll sate your need for blood and brainssss ;-)
