"The Night Sinks Into My Bones... As I Stand In The Graveyard..."

"...I'm haunted by a ghost that only I can see."
These three 40mm circular bases of plastic Gravestones are made by “Renedra Limited” and can be found within their Terrain range. Comprising of 44 various gravestones, as well as two perched ravens, the pieces are sculpted by Steve May of “Immortal Miniatures”.

Frighteningly simple to paint, each headstone was given a couple of coats of "Citadel" Adeptus Grey and then heavily washed with "Citadel" Nuln Oil. I then brusquely dry-brushed each model with more "Citadel" Adeptus Grey before adding some "Vallejo" White to my palette and lightly brushing the face of each stone in order to highlight their inscriptions, carvings or signs of deterioration.

However if you fancy seeing some more lavishly-themed metal memorials then I highly recommend a quick visit to Roger's "Rantings From Under The Wargames Table" blog, and his 'grave development'...
Plaguebearer WIPs - Plaguebearers in various stages of painting and washing
Personally I plan to use these Gravestones as scenery for the “ZombieTV” episode The Dead Will Rise, which actually takes place deep inside an old cemetery. But for now they’ll be added to the three Headstone bases I have previously painted, and give me the six infestation markers I require for my Weird War Two-inspired games of “Lost Patrol” by “Games Workshop”.

Whilst finishing off my current cluster of "Renedra Limited" Gravestones I have also continued to make some more progress on my monthly painting project; a small Host of Nurgle for “Age Of Sigmar” by “Games Workshop”. Having completed my test piece Plaguebearer I have settled upon a concoction of “Vallejo” Heavy Khaki, “Citadel” washes such as Thrakka Green and Crimson Carroburg, and "Vallejo" Heavy Ochre as my colours of choice.
Godzilla WIPs - The gigantic monster has been dry-brushed with two different shades of grey
The majority of my ten-strong unit of Plaguebearers are still in need of some "Citadel" Abaddon Black base layers, as well as additional putrescent washes. But I have managed to get something of a factory process going with them and already simply need to carefully dry-brush a second Nurgle minion before ‘picking out’ all their zits with yellow.

Finally I have undercoated, washed and dry-brushed one of "Wizkids" models from their "Godzilla" pre-painted collectible miniature game. This fearsome creature was originally purchased to be used as a basis for a conversion I had planned as one of my "Forgotten Heroes" challenge entries. But ultimately I liked the miniature's sculpt so much that I decided to simply re-base and paint the model as Ishiro Honda's famous film monster...

  1. Great work on the gravestones, Simon. I must add these to my own collection, most of which are unpainted, but I do own a LOT of gravestones!

The Plaguebearers are looking suitably disgusting and I do like your colour scheme for baby Godzilla. He can't be very big, can he?

    1. Thanks Bryan. Simple but effective gravestones imho :-) I'm rather pleased with the Plaguebearers, and hopefully will have some finished examples to post before long. Godzilla is pretty big, and formidably towers over 28mm minis. He too should be finished soon, as I rather want to pair him up with Batman :-/

  2. G'zilla is tremendous. I love her! (Well not literally that would be all kinds of wrong on so many different levels!)
The Nurgling and the stone are also very good and well executed.

    1. Cheers Clint. Godzilla was a bit of an impulse buy tbh. But has come on a treat now the dry-brushing has finished. Just need to pick out the eyes, claws etc and that'll be it.

  3. The gravestones turned out well. :)

    How big is Godzilla?

    1. Thanks Leon. Godzilla is 52mm tall so a fair-sized figure, and one which will certainly catch the eye amongst my more regular-sized "Heroclix" minis.

    1. Thanks Bill. To be fair neither did I until Jez (Carrion Crow) converted one to become the "Marvel Comics" super-villain Stegron (as can be found here: https://carrioncrowsbuffet.wordpress.com/2016/06/24/forgotten-heroes-final-issue-for-now/)

  6. More super gravestones, and thanks for the plug, didn't realise you had that many!

The Nurgle stuff is growing on my (not literally I hope!), your painting is bringing them along a treat.

Godzilla is the star of the piece though, and he's grey as any true G fan knows that's his proper colour!

    Cracking stuff Simon, cheers Roger.

    1. Cheers Roger. You do get a lot on the "Renedra" sprues, so expect more to come... Glad you like the Nurgle. Hopefully I I'll be posting some finished examples off soon.

I've sort of stuck with the pre-paint colour scheme tbh rather than done anything consciously. Although I'm still hoping you'll give me a shout at some point to say you've found another of those wonderful models you once painted.

  9. Very nice. I was eyeing up these in my LGS last week and didn't spot the ravens. I shall have to pick them up. I need some terrain to bad out my Fantasy terrain and a field of graves might do that nicely.

    1. Thanks Simon. These are excellent plastic kits and I certainly hope to assemble some more soon to use as "Frostgrave" scenery.

  11. Great looking headstones, Simon. Mixing up the washes on the plaguebearers gives them some variety. Nice.

  12. Gojira! Love that sculpt and the repaint thus far is perfect!

Plaguebearers are coming along nicely - are we close enough to being able to take a group shot of them all?

  13. Another varied selection, Simon. Love the gravestone markers, your plaguebearers are coming along nicely and I see you've decided to keep Godzilla as Godzilla. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by both the size and detail of these figures. Whilst I may have converted mine into Stegron, I'm kind of leaning towards getting some more from the range, just because the sculpts are so nice.

    1. Thanks Jez. Obviously my Godzilla purchase was entirely down to your excellent self. I've actually finished painting mine now (to be posted soon) and like you I'm rather tempted to pick up some more. The only thing I didn't like about the sculpt was the mouth, as it was hard to see what was supposedly teeth and/or tongue. So in the end I fudged mine with a red interior and Nuln Oil wash.
