"I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, And Your Motorcycle."

"Phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range."
These five 28mm metal models of Terminator Robots are manufactured by “Copplestone Castings” and can be bought as code FW15 from their Future Wars range. A robotic assassin and soldier, designed by the military supercomputer Skynet for infiltration and combat duty, these miniatures are clearly highly influenced by the 1984 film "The Terminator".

The figures were initially primed using "Citadel" Chaos Black and subsequently given a double layer of Ironbreaker. They were then heavily washed with Nuln Oil and dry-brushed with more Ironbreaker. As the models were predominantly metallic silver in colour I decided to try and break up this monotonous appearance by 'picking out' their automatic weapons with Chaos Black. These rifles were then highlighted with "Vallejo" Heavy Charocal, washed with "Citadel" Nuln Oil and then finally, had an L.E.D. painted on them using a combination of "Vallejo" Heavy Red and "Citadel" Carroburg Crimson.
"Come with me if you want to live."
To be honest I had hoped these particular models would be a relatively pain-free twenty-five point submission for the Seventh Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. But I actually found their sculpts a little 'questionable' around their firearms, particularly underneath their arms where it wasn't very clear whether I was looking at part of the weapon, part of the arm/torso, or just a lump of metal where there should ordinarily be a gap. As a result I spent a good while repeatedly shading certain parts of these figures to try and give the illusion of shadow around their automatic rifles so as to mask these 'troublesome' areas.

The completion of my T-800's, does nonetheless mean that I can now concentrate on painting some additional foot-soldiers for my "Copplestone Castings" "Mad Max" mini-project. For now I actually plan to use the robots as the forgotten survivors of Skynet's Sydney Headquarters, which, having been reactivated by Rockatansky, act as his 'personal protectors' against the hordes of ravenous undead stalking the post-apocalyptic Australian Outback. However, I still hope to paint up some mortal delinquents with which to threaten the former Main Force Patrol officer with, so I have dug deep into my lead mountain and started basing a number of Scavengers, Wastelands Desperadoes, Bikers and Mercenaries, as well as some Grey Aliens and Sand (Snow) Yetis...
The Silence WIPs - These aliens have had their flesh base-painted with "Vallejo" Heavy Warmgrey
Lastly, I have been steadily making some more progress on my collection of "Doctor Who" miniatures by "Warlord Games", and as a result have finally finished painting all the base layers on my three Silents. These "genetically engineered 7 foot tall mouthless creatures" have proved a tad more time-consuming than I imagined on account of their cream-coloured shirt collars. But with these garments now finished, along with their pallid flesh, the "confessional priests of the Church of the Silence" are ready for some washes and final highlights.

  1. T-800's look great Simon, the black weapons really help stand out against the metal of the robots. What colour washes are you thinking of doing on the silence figures ?

    1. Thanks Dave. The Silence will get a "Citadel" Nuln Oil wash over their suits and Reikland Fleshshade over their flesh. I'll then highlight their faces up with more "Vallejo" Heavy Warmgrey.

    2. try a drop of watered down blue in the eye socket areas to add a focal point before the flesh wash

    3. Ah, I've already put their eyes in with some "Citadel" Chaos Black, Dave - similar as to how I paint my "Frostgrave" skeletons. I'll certainly give your suggestion a go though, as I like the idea of blue in the eye sockets :-)

  2. You are not having my clothes, my boots or my motorcycle. Hard luck!

They looked good when I SAW THEM ON THE CHALLENGE AND THEY LOOK GOOD NOW! But you are still not having my clothes boots or Motorcycle!

    Opps sorry for caps lock!

  3. Ah the 80's when you could buy an Uzi 9mm straight off the rack.....

Nice robots/terminators, the sculpts look great, good idea to go with black weapons as there would have been the danger of losing them in with the rest of the mini, good job dude!

  4. Those robots look great. I really like them. Never heard of Dicemasters, so will have to see what that's all about.

    1. Cheers Roy. "Dicemasters" is, obviously, a dice game using a gaming mat & cards. It doesn't need the minis. But the table was set up alongside the game so we could visualise the action taking place... Hopefully it'll make sense when posted on Sunday.

  5. Great work on all of the figures. I do agree that painting the T800s' weapons black was the right decision to make. They needed that extra contrast. I'm looking forward to seeing the Silence finished but not as much as your upcoming batrep. Bring it on!

    1. Many thanks Bryan. I have seen the T-800's painted all silver and just felt they looked a little too... metallic. The BatRep should be posted sunday and will hopefully prove a useful introduction to the world of "Dicemasters".

  6. Well, the Terminators certainly came out well despite the trouble with the guns. Looking forward to Avengers vs X-Men!

  7. "I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, And Your Motorcycle." ... "Oh and your skin!".

Lovely work Simon, I like the Silence figures especially the third from the right who appears to be bursting into song.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Cheers Roger. I wanted the T-800's for a simple BatRep I have planned later in the month. The Silence just need one more flesh wash and will be ready for posting... I hope!

  8. The Copplestone terminators always reminded me of Marvin from Hitchhiker's tv series. Must be the square heads. "I'm really depressed..." * dakka, dakka, dakka* "That's better..."

    1. They do a bit Jez. Presumably to avoid any licensing issues? I was a little disappointed the heads didn't have either pupils or room for my paintbrush to dollop a little red on them though.

  11. Good job on the future bots. They came out very nice regardless of your struggles mate.

Looking forward to seeing where these Silence end up - they are some really cool sculpts. (I still see that one as "dabbing".)

    1. Thanks Dai. I need to get some more at "Salute" just to bulk up their numbers a bit. The Silents are finished and ready for submitting for the AHPC on Thursday; they should be posted here afterwards.
