"Well, If We're Not On Earth, Doc, Then Where The Hell Are We?"

"Ra, if your tribe and the others was joined together, you could defeat the Mahars."
This metal model of Shug McClure is from “Antediluvian Miniatures” range of 28mm Adventurers. The sculpt is clearly based upon the character of David Innes, a Victorian mining heir who finances the experimental “Iron Mole” in the 1976 Fantasy-Science Fiction film “At The Earth’s Core”.

Edgar Rice Burrough’s creation was initially undercoated with “Vallejo” Heavy Sienna. His trousers were painted using Charred Brown and his spear “Citadel” Doombull Brown. Both of these areas, along with his “Vallejo” Heavy Sienna waistcoat and hair were then washed with “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade. The figure’s shirt was painted using a combination of “Vallejo” White and the transparent acrylic Pale Grey. Finally the hero’s metallic spear tip was picked out with “Citadel” Ironbreaker and Nuln Oil.
Crossbowman WIP - This plastic model is becoming increasingly colourful
I’m still progressing my “Frostgrave” warband using “North Star Military Figures”, and hope to have my initial party of fortune hunters finished within the next few weeks. The additional pouches and equipment I’ve adorned my adventurers' with has somewhat slowed down my pace in getting them finished. But I’m finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel for this crossbowman...
Re-basing The Undead - Lots of damaged feet and legs have been repainted on these models
Lastly I’m continuing to try and give my considerable collection of old “Copplestone Castings” zombies a new lease on life by rebasing and (in some cases) repainting them. These three are from Code FW4 Plague Zombies, and are part of the company’s Future Wars Range.

  2. Nice work. Perfect green on those zombies and spot on job with Shug.

    1. Thanks Natholeon. Much appreciated. I'm very happy with Shug despite his surprisingly sad-looking eyes. The Zombie green is a long-forgotten mix of green ink upon a cream flesh undercoat, using old "Citadel" products...

  3. Great work on the zombies, Simon. Those staring eyes look like they're about to pop out of their sockets, which is a rather creepy thought! Spot on with the gore effects which look suitably moist. Your other figures are coming along nicely but it goes without saying that I prefer your zombies.

    1. Cheers Bryan. I thought the zeds would quickly bring out the gore-hound in you ;-) More coming as I continue to base them up for some "Marvel Zombies" games in the future - just have to paint up a few more of my "Nexus Miniatures" superheroes first. I've still got one more of my adventurers by "Antediluvian Miniatures" to finish and a load more semi-finished figs from the past as I try to clear my decks before the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge.

  6. Nice to Shug finished, Simon, although I agree he looks a little melancholy. And good progress on your Frostgrave "prepared for anything" soldier. As quite a few of our fellow bloggers are taking part on the Analogue Hobbies pairing challenge, I have plenty of eye candy to look forward to from yourself and others - even if I'm not taking part myself. I've still one more Mo'vember figure to complete, prior to the start of my most ambitious project yet. All will be revealed in my next post...;-)

    1. Thanks Jez. I think you'll find the output over the next three months from many bloggers will be amazing. Certainly I'd estimate I painted more in those three months than I did in the preceding nine. Like you I have one more Mo'Vember figure yet to post, and I'm looking forward to seeing your next project :-)

    1. Cheers Bob. I hoped you;d like the "Copplestone Castings" zeds. I still recall thoroughly enjoying my painting of them when they first arrived, and it'll be good to get them back on the tabletop soon.

    1. Cheers Roger. Shug won't be waiting too long for Raquel to turn up. But my finished warband isn't there yet though I do still have one final Mo'Vember entry for later today ;-)

  10. Love all the work shown Simon. The rebasing on the zedheads is very nice, as are their paint jobs.

Doug looks the part for sure. Saw that film, a l-o-n-g time ago and remember little of it, but the characters are in the depths of my addled brain.

    1. Many thanks Dai. Glad to have got another few zeds re-based as I now have a sizeable horde ready for the tabletop. Shug was a labour of love as I still recall seeing that film at the cinema as a little boy :-)

  11. That chap with the pointy stick has come out really well, I've grown to really like him despite my intial retiscense, he looks so bewildered by it all.
Your crossbowman is coming to life too with even just the little colouring you've used - he's definetly going to hero material imo. - Good to see some zeds too, I do love your ake on these too.

    1. Cheers Joe. Much appreciated. The Crossbowman has certainly become a labour of love as there's so much detail on him now. But he is taking a long time considering he's just a minion. Glad you like the zeds. They're well worth investing a little time in just to get them back on the tabletop again imho.
