Permanently attached to a plastic 40mm circular stand, the sculpt was treated to a lick of "Vallejo" Grey Primer, before being coated in "Two Thin Coats" Berzerker Red and washed with lots of "Citadel" Nuln Oil. As I couldn't really make out where its claws were, the hound's four paws were simply picked out with "Citadel" Abaddon Black, and then had its lower legs dry-brushed with more of the colour so as to better blend them in with the rest of the model.

Alongside the last of my Death Dogs, at least for now, I have also completed a second Wookie by "Fantasy Flight Games". Standing 47mm tall and made of hard plastic, the figure comes from the company's "Wookie Warriors" Expansion Box for "Star Wars: Legion" and was picked up both second-hand and pre-assembled from the Retrocave Gaming Café in Poole.

| "Death X Tiles" WIPs - This piece is being base layered to try out a number of paint schemes |
Finally, I've base-layered a piece of science fiction scenery by "Death X Tiles" from their fairly recent Starship Mini Set. Created using some "Bambu Lab" PLA (Polylactic Acid) on my A1 Mini 3D Printer, the entranceway has been given a lick of "Vallejo" Neutral Grey, "Gunmetal Blue" and "Gunmetal" to see if I like any of the colours - or a mix of the colours. I plan to pigment quite a sizeable layout using the tiles over the next few months and what a palette that is fairly easy and quick to complete, as well as something which won't overshadow my miniatures.

Great work on your Death Dog, and Wookie Simon, Interesting start on the scenery, as to the colors it depends on the color of the models going in front, if they're light colored these will work, but if they're dark they could get lost in them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. The Wookie is all your fault for posting up so much Star Wars stuff. LOL. The test piece will be used for lots of different sci-fi models, so I plan to go with a lighter grey for the walls etc and metal floors - with a hint of rust. That should work for everything I hope.
DeleteAnother outstanding Death Dog mate, you've had a cracking Monster Mayhem this year! some lovely figures (lovely in a monsterous way that is!).
ReplyDeleteGreat Wookies too sir, and that scenery look very cool, love that Turquoise on the door!
Cheers Roger.
Cheers Roger. Not as productive a Monster Mayhem as I had hoped. But I might finish off a few of the other creatures I had partially painted in June. Still at least a trio of Death Dogs are in the books. Just a couple more Wookies to do. I'm afraid the Boltgun Blue door won't be around for long as I'm going to blend all the entranceways in with the light grey walls I've chosen for my scenery. But it will appear for some of the spaceship's other parts.
DeleteI thought I'd seen this post before, but looking back this is your second lot of 2 headed woofers!! Nice work Simon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray. I do try to mix my posts up when I can, so certainly wasn't going to lead with another Wookie, for the very reason you raise, LOL. This is the third and last of my Death Dogs finished, I snuck the second one into my Don Uggie posting.
DeleteLove this doggo! The little flash of red in his mouth is a perfect touch to add some spot colour interest to the mini.
ReplyDeleteThe wookiee is another good one. Nice seeing these furballs getting done.
Those terrain tiles look nicely detailed. Would be good for all sorts of scifi looking games - Space Hulk, etc.
Cheers Dai. There's an incredible amount of detail to the Titan Forge sculpt imho. I really need to get the Death Knight finished and then work on some opposition.
DeleteHopefully I can get the last two Wookies finished soon enough. They were an impulse buy which have proved a bit of a distraction. LOL!!
Dave Stone's Terrain Challenge is coming up soon and I plan to 3D print & paint a ton of the Starship Tiles (and others) for it if I can. Just need to settle upon the right colour scheme.
