"Ready Launchers Three And Seventeen."

"Fire."

This 28mm scale lead free pewter model of FedSec Base Commander is manufactured by "Beast In The Broch" and can be brought either individually as SKU: FED18 or as part of the five-figure FedSec Command 2 set SKU: PAK08. Digitally sculpted by Carl Stoelzel, the miniature is clearly inspired by the one-eyed Quute as played by actor Christopher Neame in the 1981 television episode of "Blake's Seven" entitled "Traitor".

"A colonel in the Federation force on Helotrix", the senior officer was primed using a couple of coats of "Citadel" Abaddon Black, heavily dry-brushed with "Vallejo" Heavy Charcoal, and shaded using plenty of "Citadel" Nuln Oil. I then picked out all his uniform's rather lavish rank insignia with using a combination of "Vallejo" Gunmetal and (more) "Citadel" Nuln Oil.

"Warlord Games" WIPs - This piece of Sturmriese Axis Walker has had several stickers added to it

Ordinarily I would also use these colours to 'pick out' the Federation's standard issue carbine. However, as I wanted to make a break from all the black and silver already on show, I decided to pigment the hand-weapon using a basecoat of "Scale 75" Decayed Metal and subsequently wash it with "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade. This seemed to be a much better match for the on-screen colour scheme too.

With the first of my FedSec Command Team completed, I have once again turned my attention to Dave Stone's Season of Scenery over on his "Wargames Terrain Workshop" blog, and started work on a rather large piece of a Sturmriese Axis "alker for "Konlikt '47" I printed using some "Bambu Lab" PLA (Polylactic Acid) on my A1 Mini 3D Printer many moons ago. The "Warlord Games" STL (Standard Triangle Language) is just piece of a rather complicated looking "colossal Rift-tech construct" and frankly put me right off producing any more parts. But I did think it looked rather good as some sort of energy pylon.

"Atomic Mass Games" WIPs - This Dark Trooper has been assembled, primed and base-coated

Indeed, my recent purchase of the "Secret Wars" expansion book for the "Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game" has put me in need of just such an objective/scenic piece, so I thought now was the ideal time to get it painted. However, it did (understandably) look a little bare for my purposes, so I dipped into my slowly-dwindling collection of 3D decals given to me by “N-FX Game Design Studio”, and 'spruced' it up a bit first.

In addition, I've been battling the first of two Dark Troopers I recently bought as part of the You Have Something I Want Squad Pack for "Star Wars: Shatterpoint". This 40mm scale multipart plastic Imperial super-soldier by "Atomic Mass Games" took forever to assemble due to its overcomplicated design and incredibly fiddly small parts - the number of times I had to hunt around the floor on my knees looking for a tiny piece I'd dropped whilst trying to glue it to a similarly-sized part almost fried my poor brain. Luckily though, I have managed to persevere and finally get the first of the box's four figures ready for some paint...

  1. Love the FedSec Commander! My childhood memories of Blakes Seven are less than stellar, but I like the look of this guy. Definite "no nonsense" vibe.

Don't blame you for stopping early when it came to printing out that K47 monstrosity. Just too big and unwieldy for a tabletop game imo. BUT, as a sci-fi type pylon...... GENIUS! Excited to see how it paints up! (Have to say though, I am excited about the recently proffered AA towers Warlord stuck up stl's for free for the latest campaign book. I think they'd also make for some really cool Not-K47 terrain.)

Oof.... teeny pieces gluing to other teeny pieces just sounds like a headache indeed! Constructed Dark Trooper looks great though! Just need Luke to come slice him in half now!

    1. Thanks Dai. Colonel Quute was indeed a cold-blooded, no-nonsense senior officer. LOL!! Got the next FedSec Commander finished too, so she should be posted soon too.

Hopefully, I can post up some more WIPs of the "K47" monstrosity as it progresses - I haven't seen the AA towers you mention so will have a look at them when I have the time.

I don't like the assembly guide to the SW Shatterpoint figures being on my phone, so having to repeatedly glance at that whilst sticking two-piece heads, legs and arms together is a nightmare. Still, I've almost got the second Dark Trooper assembled, so hopefully he'll be finished soon too.

  2. I have no intention of digging out by Blakes 7 crew anytime soon, but every time I see your new acquisitions I feel I need to add more to the collection. Great job Simon and so very tempting.

    1. Cheers Michael. There's a few more new additions coming to the range by Beast In The Broch too, so I'm determined to get these figures finished before they are released. LOL!!

  3. Excellent work on your FedSec Commander, looks ready to impose tyranny on any rebellion.
Interesting looking piece of scenery, the stickers save a lot of time adding detail, shall be interesting to see what colors you use.
Nice start on your Dark Trooper, not done any of these for legion, guess I might at some point as I have Mando and Grogu ! LOL

    1. Thanks Dave. I'm rather pleased with the FedSec Commander - especially as he didn't turn out all black as I first feared.

It'll be simple stuff for the scenic piece as I like to view scenery as things that should be painted but not particularly seen during games - so a lot of metallic blue for this one with a silver dome and the odd grating picked out.

I don't recommend the SW Shatterpoint figures from a building perspective at all. If you think back to your B1 Battle Droids for Legion you'll be along the right lines for these so and so's. LOL!!

    2. That's okay as I have no intention of getting shatter point models, but may get the legion versions at some point.

    3. Yes. I went with Shatterpoint purely because I really liked their Count Dooku - my fave Star Wars character. But as you know I'm a big Legion fan too. In fact, I've just found my Dooku for that game.

  4. Love that Fedsec officer, looks menacing but not overdone. I also really like the scenic piece, in the white and black it has a real Space 1999 or UFO vibe. In fact everything in this post is rather good mate 👍
    Cheers Roger
