"Soon The Krynoids Will Dominate Everywhere..."

"You must die. All plant eaters must die."
This 28mm metal model of United Radionics Chairman Lancelot Cray is code SKU: MINI 112 by “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” and makes for a wonderful proxy of Harrison Chase, the millionaire botanist from the 1976 British Science Fiction television program “Doctor Who And The Seeds of Doom”.

The Andrew May sculpt was initially given an undercoat of “Vallejo” Heavy Blue before being washed with “Citadel” Badab Black. I then simply painted the murderous tycoon’s overcoat with Abaddon Black and lightly dry-brushed the garment with some “Vallejo” Heavy Charcoal. Finally, in order to blend in these highlights I applied a layer of the “Citadel” Shade Nuln Black to the raiment. Chase’s shirt was painted using a combination of “Vallejo” Heavy Warmgrey and “Citadel” Carroburg Crimson. Whilst his tie was quickly ‘picked out’ with some more “Vallejo” Heavy Blue and a touch of “Citadel” Asurmen Blue”. Lastly I completed my model of the eccentric Englishman by giving his hair a layer of “Vallejo” Heavy Bluegrey and a wash of “Citadel” Nuln Oil.
"The Krynoid's still lurking around outside the house somewhere."
This 28mm metal model of a Failed Experiment Minion is from code SKU: 26 and is also made by “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio”. Having first pinned and superglued a Human ‘Hard Hat’ Minion Head to the torso, as well as a spare plastic “Games Workshop” mutated hand, I gave the hapless Chase Manor Security Guard an undercoat of “Vallejo” Heavy Blue. I then picked out the ‘infected’ plant-zombie’s zipper and name badge clipper with “Citadel” Iron Breaker before washing both these metallic areas and the chap’s headwear and jumpsuit with Nuln Oil. The goon’s spine-like appendage was painted using a combination of Vallejo “Heavy Grey”, “Citadel” Thrakka Green and Carroburg Crimson, and “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade. This formidable vegetable growth was then dry-brushed with more “Vallejo” Heavy Grey. The former human’s flesh was painted using Heavy Skintone and some watered down “Citadel” Reikland Fleshshade.
Sarah Jane Smith WIP - Once inked and highlighted the Doctor's assistant should be finished
Despite Zomtober 2015 now coming to an end I still plan to continue working on a few more “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” miniatures so I can use them as part of my “Doctor Who And The Seeds of Doom” re-enactment using the “Zombicide” rule-set. As a result I hope to have this sensational sculpt of Sarah Jane Smith finished soon, as well as another 'infected' Security Guard and poor Arnold Keeler, a loyal botanist who was ultimately betrayed to the Krynoid by the diabolical Harrison Chase.

    1. Thanks Michael. I'll try and do a complete "Seeds of Doom" group shot once I've finished off the few minis I want to finish before my BatRep. I thought it'd help show off just how big the Krynoid 'Fatties' are as well.

  2. Totally agreed with what Michael says- the minis are looking excellent and you have the makings for a great game I am sure. :)

    Kudos. :)

    1. Cheers PulpCitizen. Bit of scenery still to paint and a couple of minis to squeeze in as Mo'Vember fast approaches. But all very doable...

  4. Simon, it has been an absolute pleasure watching this inspired project of yours progress. I agree that you should take more time to finish painting your cast (especially Sarah Jane). Much as I'm dying to see your batrep, I'd rather wait a while longer until you get everyone required finished.

    1. Cheers Bryan. I'm somewhat exhausted now tbh, certainly of painting green... But the end is in sight. SJS should be finished this weekend, and I want to get at least another 'Runner' done. I also have another 'Survivor' to post tomorrow as a Zomtober/Mo'Vember cross-over ;-) Ideally though the BatRep should be up for next weekend... fingers crossed.

  5. This inspired project has given me immense enjoyment to follow! I totally agree with Bryan, much better to take your time and finish things to your own satisfaction, than rush it. We'll all just have to be a little more patient, no matter how much we want to see the batrep.

    1. Thanks Bob. Much appreciated praise from so dedicated a zed-fan :-) It shouldn't take too long to finish the odd mini I want to use in my BatRep, and hopefully the group shot is a nice taster of what should be a thoroughly gory game.

  6. Cracking stuff Simon, the group shot really shows the effort you've put into this project, and I can't wait to see the finished batrep (especially with SJS in all her glory).

    Cheers Roger.

  7. Sweet group-shot, Simon. The two varieties of fully transformed Krynoids look great side-by-side.

    1. Thanks Finch. I felt my usual three pictures of a slim, less than dynamic Harrison Chase would be a little underwhelming. Far better to show some of the horde the murderous tycoon commands instead :-)

  8. Vegetables of Doom! Lovely work, Simon. You've certainly have managed an impressive cast of cold floronic menace, as well as the evil mastermind in control. Can't wait to see all your figures and your scenery and your batrep. Not even worried about Mo'vember, as I'm sure you'll be ready! ;-)

    1. Cheers Jez. Still quite a bit to do but should be there soon as far as this project is concerned - for now at least. My first MoVember mini is just waiting for me to brush off its flock and will be posted tomorrow :-)

    1. Thanks Dai. Much appreciated :-) I still have a few minis left to go before this project is finished. But I'm already looking forward to my "Frostgrave" one for Mo'Vember as well as another I'm hoping to sneak in...
