“When Diplomacy Ends, War Begins.”

"The victor will never be asked if he told the truth."
This 28mm pewter “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” model of the Third Reich's Fuhrer is from the company’s “Danger 5” Starter Set and is based upon the German leader as depicted within the “action comedy TV series [which] follows a team of five spies on a mission to kill Adolf Hitler!”

This “bizarre, 1960’s inspired version of [the] World War Two” dictator is the fourth of my submissions for this month’s Mo’vember challenge; a facial hair themed event that Dick Garrison, Carrion Crow and Punkrabbit are also participating in this time round. Please do visit their respective blogs to see how they’re all getting on.
Adolf Hitler WIP - The model's "Vallejo" Heavy Charcoal dry-brush really helpt bring out the sculpt's details
Before beginning to paint this miniature I decided to base him upon one of the many lipped 28mm circular bases I use for my “West Wind Productions” “Secret Of The Third Reich” models. Ordinarily I stick with the customary “Crooked Dice” round ones for their figures. But as I plan to use Adolf alongside my ‘Weird War Two’ German forces, I’ve gone for the same style base as they (and my “Bolt Action” miniatures) all stand upon.

Initially the figure was undercoated with “Citadel” Abaddon Black and was then rather roughly dry-brushed with “Vallejo” Heavy Charcoal. As I wanted the miniature to stand out somewhat, as opposed to simply being dressed all in black, I decided to give the tyrant a pair of ‘Sturmabteilung’ brown trousers, so used a combination of Heavy Brown and “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade on his slacks. I then painted his shirt collar and tie with “Vallejo” White and Charred Brown, before giving his armband a coat of Heavy Red followed by a wash of “Citadel” Carroburg Crimson.
Adolf Hitler WIP - Once the Fuhrer's tie, gun and armband were finished, it was time to paint his 'cartoony' face
Lastly, having painted his sub-machinegun with “Citadel” Ironbreaker and Nuln Oil, I picked out the tiniest swastika decal I could find on the “GR 100 German WW2 Crosses & Swastika” sheet sold by “Pendraken Miniatures” and applied it to the centre of Adolf’s armband.

    1. Thanks PulpCitizen. Certainly a very characterful sculpt of arguably a rather contentious personality. I think the 'cartoony' feel to him though will make him well suited to 'Weird War Two'.

  2. Last year it was Jesus and this year Hitler. You do like mixing it up, Simon. Of course, now I'm trying to work out how you could field both models in the same game. Hmm, Jesus mounting a rescue mission to a POW camp on the same day Hitler was visiting? Sounds like a 7TV game to me! Nice work - may have to check Pendraken out, as I have need of tiny swastikas too.

    1. Cheers Jez. I do indeed enjoy mixing my genres up, and I think a 'confrontation' of the aforementioned two is certainly on the cards at some point. With hindsight I actually feel the swastika is probably a little too small for the armband, as too much white is showing around the edge, so I might remove it and add a larger one at some point.

  3. What a great model, although that somehow seems a strange thing to say.

    1. Absolutely Michael. It is certainly the most dynamic version I've seen of him.

  4. He's a perfect figure for a Pulp-era game or, of course, Weird World War Two. Plus, let us not forget the Doctor Who episode "Let's Kill Hitler". Yes, he is a contentious figure but I'd have no qualms about using him in a game. Good work, Simon.

    1. Thanks Bryan. Much appreciated. I certainly think he'll fit in well with some "Weird War Two" battles, as well as some time-travelling adventures too.

    1. Cheers Gordon. Doubtless I'll return to the rest of the start set's minis at some point. But for now this figure is a bit of a one-off.

    1. Thanks Simon. Certainly the best mini of the set. But devilishly expensive if that's the only one you plan to paint - hence I will do the others at some point :-)

  7. Cracking figure and paintwork Simon, I'm not going to play the "weirdest mini" game with you this year after you trumped me with Jesus last year. The field is most definitely your sir!.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Very kind of you Roger, I'm glad you like the mini. He's been patiently sat on my table waiting for Mo'vember and a lick of paint since I first bought him ;-)

  8. What a strange model. Mind you I have one of Hitler in a battle suit and another of him clutching the spear of destiny. :)

    1. This sculpt certainly caught my eye, John :-) I've seen the one of Hitler in the battlesuit but not carrying the spear of destiny, unless its the "West Wind Productions" mini?

  9. Great job, Simon. Nice use of the decal.

Still no match for President Roosevelt and his assault-wheelchair. ;)

    1. Thanks Finch. I did consider swapping the decal for a larger one. But don't own one that would fit any better. LOL :-)

  10. Nice one. But when are we going to see this figure leading the massed, shuffling ranks of Nazi zombies, then? :)

    1. Cheers Roy. Very soon I hope. I'm just working my way through the tiles and scenery I want to use for my "Zombicide" games and then you'll be swamped with "Seeds of Doom" and "Weird War Two" Batreps I assure you :-)
