"Credo!"

"I am the shape of things to come - The Lord of the Flies - Holder of the Sword Sinister..."
This 28mm pre-painted plastic “Wizkids” model of Nemesis The Warlock is miniature number 109 from the Indy “Heroclix” range. Originally created by Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill in 1980 as an anti-hero for a series of one-off stories inspired by popular music within "the British comic anthology 2000 A.D.", the "fire-breathing demonic alien" would go on to make semi-regular appearances for the next nineteen years and end his days haunting the Earth in a spectral form, tied to the extra-terrestrial's organic spaceship, the Blitzspear.

Before painting this miniature, I first removed its horribly bendy Sword Sinister and replaced it with a far sturdier double-handed variant from the "Frostgrave" Soldiers sprue sold by "North Star Military Figures". The Warlock was then primed with "Vallejo" Heavy Red and had both his armour and hand-weapon 'picked out' with a combination of "Citadel" Ironbreaker and Nuln Oil.
Legion Cybermen WIPs - The silver giants have been washed, in preparation of dry-brushing and detailing
Predominantly dark(ish) green in the comic book illustrations I sourced, Nemesis' flesh was initially layered with "Vallejo" Heavy Green and subsequently shaded with "Citadel" Nuln Oil, before being highlighted with more "Vallejo" Heavy Green. His great sweeping cloak was similarly painted, albeit using "Vallejo" Heavy Red" and "Citadel" Nuln Oil. Finally, I picked out the freedom fighter's eyes with some "Vallejo" White.

With the "mysterious leader of the secret resistance organisation Credo" finished, I have been able to turn my eye back upon a couple of metal miniatures from the "Warlord Games" "Nightmares In Silver" collectors set. The East Midlands-based manufacturer plans of releasing both the Vashta Nerada and (Jon Pertwee era) Sea Devils later this month, and despite neither box actually containing any of the recruitment cards needed to field them for "Doctor Who: Exterminate!", I'm rather keen on getting the models painted and on my tabletop. As a result I'm really going to need to 'crack on' with these silver giants and steadily work my way back through their numerous incarnations...
Hammerer WIPs - The constructs have been shaded, dry-brushed and distressed
Lastly, I am close to finishing work on the three metal "Chainmail" Hammerer models I want to use for an upcoming "Mutants And Death Ray Guns" scenario based upon the "Dungeons & Dragons" module "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks". Sent to a cargo hatch by "a computer malfunction", I'm hoping to use these formidably-sized metal miniatures to represent the worker robots who "promptly cleared" the opening of fallen earth and stone, and unloaded the crashed spacecraft's "requisite cargo" of various alien fauna and flora.

Armed with huge, pincer-like claws and enormous hammer-shaped limbs, I've actually stepped away from the grisly, bloody-splattered colour scheme suggested by "Wizards Of The Coast" for these Jim Warner sculpts, and instead gone for a more rusty appearance; something arguably far more suitable for an automaton who has simply been stood motionless within the confines of a seemingly inactive exploration-colonisation vessel for "several decades".

    1. Thanks very much Leon. Nemesis is a bit of a bigger lad than I anticipated from reading the comic books, but he does rather dominate the tabletop as a result.

Got your LAF message and have replied. Very grateful to you for thinking of me :-)

  2. three more interesting things this post I see. That`s what I always love about coming here. I always find something which inspires me, then propels me forward and into motion with my own projects.

Hammerer, I think, is my favourite this week.

    1. Cheers Hils. Nemesis has taken far longer to finish than I anticipated, and I wanted to get moving on the Cybermen before I get completely swamped with more "Doctor Who: Exterminate!" minis. As for "Expedition To Barrier Peaks", well... once the Hammerers are finished I can justify spending some time painting the "D&D" adventurers I want to use for that module - and some of them look very fiddly.

    1. Thanks Bryan. I'm going to have to post every couple of days for a while, simply to catch-up on my finished minis, so should be hitting lots of genres as a result :-)

  4. Nemesis looks awesome ! Cybermen progressing nicely and like the rusty effect on the hammerers and should fit perfectly with the scenario your planning. I know posting every couple of days will be a lot of work for you, but for all who follows your blog it's bonus time !

    1. Cheers Dave. Hopefully i can get Nemesis in an AAR pretty soon. I just need to clear out some old finished minis, which i why I'm planning on doing a bit of a run on postings for the foreseeable. Very grateful to you for thinking such a thing is "bonus time!" :-)

Thats the problem isnt it. When we get a great idea for a game.... like your Barrier Peaks, Metamorphasis Alpha, Mutants & Death ray Guns - then throw in the influences of Frostgrave, D&D and OSRIC, and before you know it you suddenly have a huge range of choices where to start digging in to the pile.

    1. Tbh its a good problem to have though Steve, and I'm hoping it'll generate plenty of banter and chat in the comments. Plus, the sheer scale of imminent "Doctor Who" releases is incredible, and "Dracula's America" looks set to soon to rearing its fanged face within the next few weeks. Plus I really want to do some more BatReps and play with these minis I keep painting :-)

Interestingly I just wrote about that in depth in the comments over on Jez`s blog.

    1. Thanks Andy. Nemesis will indeed be teaming up with Mega-City One's toughest lawman in order to face Torquemada in the Cursed Earth :-)

  9. I too would say that Nemesis is my favourite, but as he's my favourite 2000AD, it was pretty certain he'd win.

However, i do also like your 'heavy metal' too. Those Cybermen are my preferred 'model' and I hope WG release a boxed set of them, as I would definitely by them. As for the Hammerers, they are growing on me, probably due to how you've painted them. Not all mechanoids need to be shiny.

Loving the new cybermen and the bots too.

    1. Thanks Joe. I agree the Nemesis "Heroclix" isn't the best of minis about depicting the Warlock. But he's done and should soon be on the tabletop. Glad you like the Cybermen and Hammerers, they should be finished soon too.

    1. Cheers Simon. I have a bit of a backlog of minis currently, so need to get them posted before I forget how I painted them all!! The Hammerers are now finished, and I should have the Cybermen done soon too.

  12. That Hammerer looks fantastic. The rust is spot on imo.

Nemesis paint job is likewise lovely. The sculpt tho... He looks so top heavy to me on those piddly legs. I'm sure, when you feature him wading through Terminators and swinging his sword I'll forget that quicksmart though.

    1. Thanks Dai. The Hammerers are now finished and should be posted up soon, as I've dry-brushed a lot of their rust off of them. I too think Nemesis is a barrel-chested lad, but he'll certainly dominate the tabletop because of is size.
