"Stay On The Road. Keep Clear Of The Moors."

"I vote we go back to The Slaughtered Lamb"
These eight 28mm metal miniatures are made by “SLAP Miniatures” and come from Stuart Powley’s Moon Howler’s range. They can actually be bought individually but as I wanted multiples of each in order to create a reasonably sized pack, I purchased mine as part of their He-Wolf set of six figures deal. Each pewter model comprises of a separate body, and a tab containing the were-wolf’s arms, head and tail.
"There aren't any coyotes in England"
Having assembled these models with the aid of some superglue and “Citadel” Green Stuff I undercoated each lycanthrope with a base colour. As I wanted to have a mixture of different-looking furry fiends I used several different undercoats such as “Vallejo” Heavy Bluegrey, Charred Brown, and Heavy Sienna, as well as “Citadel” Dark Flesh, Khemri brown and Adeptus Battlegrey. The brown-coloured miniatures were then liberally washed with “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade. Whilst the grey models were given a coat of “Citadel” Nuln Oil. All the models were then dry-brushed with more of their base colour.
"I walk the Earth in limbo until the werewolf's curse is lifted"
Interestingly this technique didn’t seem to work out all that well for the figure painted using “Vallejo” Heavy Bluegrey, so as a result I applied another wash of “Citadel” Nuln Oil over this particular model once its dry-brush had dried. All the models’ claws were then picked out with “Vallejo” White before being dabbed with some more of “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade. Their eyes were painted with dots of “Vallejo” Dark Vermillion.

I really must thank Bryan over on his blog "Vampifan’s World Of The Undead" for bringing these to my attention, and Stuart, who owns “SLAP Miniatures”, for an excellent service.

  1. They look excellent now they are finished Simon, the different colours works really well and make them more interesting than if they had all been brown of grey, they should work particularly well in zombicide, all you need now is a chap chasing after them with a lead in his hand and yelling "Fenton!!!"

    1. Many thanks Roger. I'm pleased to have finally got these based and posted, as they've been sat fully-painted for a while now. Hopefully I've enough not only to use as Hyena's wolf-pack, but as runners for "Zombicide" as well :-) Thanks for the clip LOL. I certainly plan to watch the proper film now.

  2. I am so pleased to see these all finished on your blog, Simon. They look fangtastic! Sorry, I couldn't resist it! What I particularly like about these figures is their versatility in that you can mix and match bodies, heads, arms and tails to make a horde of them with every one being unique. Plus, they are very reasonably priced, even more so if you buy a complete set of them.

Thanks for the nod to my blog. Yes, Stuart is a good guy. I'll certainly be placing more orders with him.

    1. Much appreciated Bryan... including your ghastly pun :-) Glad you like them. You're spot on about their versatility. Even though I don't think I need any more for now (unless you're going to tell me you've played "Zombicide" with more than 8 runners on the board at once) I know if I do need to make up some more they'll all be in different poses to these ones.

These are an exceptional bargain in my books, and I have already ordered again from Stuart - based on another of your fiendish recommendations I must add :-)

  3. I've been looking forward to seeing these as a group and they don't disappoint - great job Simon. When I get round to doing mine, I'm going to struggle not to paint their eyes red - looks awesome.

    1. Most kind, Sir Awdry. I think the red really suits their eyes and certainly makes them stand out a bit more as a result. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you paint yours though, and hopefully you'll let on to some of your usual top painting tips, which I can then use on the spare models I currently have left over.

  4. That's an impressive looking pack! Nice variation of colour and poses. You should try a buffy the vampire slayer type game with them. Ganesha games do some nice rules you could use :)

    1. Thanks CW. Spookily I have those rules as a PDF. Just don't have a Buffy model (yet) :-) They'll be featuring in a "Zombicide" BatRep real soon though... next weekend hopefully.

  6. Looking good there, Blax.
I'm trying to remember where I saw the thing with the Nazi Vampires and Soviet Werewolves, allied to normal humans. Might have been a movie. Obviously a Weird War 2 setting.

    1. Thanks Roy. "Secrets Of The Third Reich" do something along those lines, though the Germans have were-hounds and were-wolves as well as Vampires. Whilst the Russians have a rather formidable looking were-yeti!?!
