"But Being Dead Again Is Just The First Step In The Process!" |
This 28mm
plastic “Wizkids” model of a Hand Ninja is miniature number 6 from the Marvel “Heroclix”
Xplosion range. This evil mystical assassin first appeared in the September
1981 issue of “Daredevil” and was created by Frank Miller.
To cover the
model’s fairly ghastly pre-painted colour scheme the figure was initially given
an undercoat of “Citadel” Abaddon Black and was then dry-brushed with “Vallejo”
Heavy Red in order to create some red highlights to the occult practitioner’s
dark garb. The Tengugui was then re-painted with more “Citadel” Abaddon
Black. The mercenary’s sword was painted using a combination of Ironbreaker and Nuln Oil. Finally his flesh areas
were first given a layer of “Vallejo” Heavy Skintone and then washed with some
watered down “Citadel” Reikland Fleshshade. Finally the fingers, and cheekbones
were highlighted with some more “Vallejo” Heavy Skintone.
The Hand WIPs - Plenty of fiddly areas of flesh yet to paint |
Having finally
finished this ‘test piece’ from the end of last year, I have based up and
started work on another five of these deadly mercenaries. Once finished I
actually plan to use these nicely generic-looking figures to represent both the
Hand and the minions of Lady Shiva, a martial arts expert from “DC Comics” who
I plan to use as one of the crime bosses for my ‘Gotham City High-Rise’
campaign.
The Joker's Gang WIPs - Early days yet but these models have plenty of character to encourage painting them |
Lastly, I’ve
been slowly pottering away on four minions to accompany my “Heroclix” Joker.
All of these miniatures are actually from “Wizkids” “Horrorclix” range and are
either Undead zombies or, in the case of the big chap with the hammer, a
Vampire Roustabout. The original yellow Yama actually only had half a head with his
brains showing, so I have used some Green Stuff to sculpt him a more
appropriate-looking clown wig.
The jokers crew look like they'll be fun to paint and your ninjas will makeexcellent rank and file for a martial arts 'mastermind'
ReplyDeleteCheers Zabadak. I'm extremely indebted to Vampifan for gifting me the Yama and Vampire Roustabout. Both of which I think will look marvellous on the tabletop once finished. I agree that the Ninjas too will look good once I've painted up enough of them.
DeleteNormally I'm non-plussed by duplicate sculpts, but for ninjas I think it works wondefully.
ReplyDeleteJoker's crew look like a bunch of barmy buggers for sure. Love em!
Thanks Dai. There is another similar "Heroclix" Ninja sculpt which carries some nunchukas. But these minis are a tad over-sized, so I may well simply cut their weapon hands off and attach them to this Ninja body. I've a few more "barmy" Joker minions to come ;-)
DeleteThose are great options for a Joker crew, and I might pinch the idea of using the Hand ninjas for Lady Shiva or Ra's al Ghul.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be of service Natholeon, and they're usually cheap too :-)
DeleteThe Ninja horde will look great in action I think. Kudos. :)
ReplyDeleteZombie and Undead Circus folk - ace!
Cheers PulpCitizen. Predominantly a WIP post. But fingers crossed some of these will be finished soon.
DeleteMore great figs! Who doesn't like ninjas!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gordon. I think they'll look rather nice once finished and attacking en mass.
DeleteThose joker gang miniatures look brilliant, I just love the idea of the clown balancing on the ball.
ReplyDeleteCheers Michael. Bryan gave me the idea tbh when I received his very generous gift. The ball has one spots on it though... not sure if I'll have a go at painting them or not :-o
DeleteI was delighted to see you starting to paint the clown figures I sent you. They'll certainly do as henchmen to the Joker.
ReplyDeleteYour ninjas will make a nice group of villains. I can think of quite a few villains who would employ them.
Thanks Bryan, and I'm really indebted to you for the clowns etc. Hopefully I'll do them justice. I'd like to get a few more Ninjas painted as it'd be good have a larger scale game with them attacking a super-group or something :-)
DeleteHmm, ninjas, clowns and vampires all in one post? You're just missing Nazis for the full set of all-time villains, I think!
ReplyDeleteCheers C6. I actually do have a few Nazis on my painting table as a result of last year. Not sure when I'll get them done though. Perhaps I need to start work on my Red Skull mini...
DeleteNice work underway there Simon, clown's now there's coincidence!
ReplyDeleteand no Zombies.
Brave man.
Cheers Roger.
Thanks Roger. I'll be working on my Zomtober minis for the rest of the week. but wanted to push these guys along so I get going on that 'Gotham City High-Rise' campaign.
DeleteAn unexpected midweek posting, featuring ninjas and clowns, the opposite ends of the stealth spectrum. Ninjas...clowns...ninja..clowns...ninja clowns?Hmm....stop giving me ideas, Simon!
ReplyDeleteNice work, as usual, Mr Moore. Look forward to seeing your completed Joker gang. Might encourage me to paint my own "clown gang"...
Most kind Jez. I do like to try and keep several projects going at the same time, and frankly always seem to have at least half a dozen or so super-hero minis on my painting table at various stages of completion. I've a lot of weird and wonderful models put aside for my Joker gang, as I thought they'd be a nice-looking force to use for a larger game of "7TV" or something in the future.
DeleteMore of a clown horde than a gang, then? That would explain the Bat Sentry and your planned Bathound - reinforcements. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI did think a large scale game between the Bat family and Joker would be kind of cool. baby steps first though...
DeleteZombies and clowns and ninjas, oh my! The fellow balancing on the ball, pie in hand, is a pretty sharp looking mini.
ReplyDeleteCheers Finch. I like to have an assortment of minis on the go at the same time as you know, and the clown minis are just great sculpts ;-)
DeleteSupeb rank and file, faceless goons with the ninjas Bk. Meat for the grinder! The Joker's gang are some very nice models, ain't Bryan a cool Dude! Looking forward to seeing them finished.
ReplyDeleteZombies, clowns and ninjas, just need pirates, sharks and lasers for a full house dude!
Thanks Bob. Bryan is a tip top fellow indeed. I'm sure I'll be able to 'tick off' those other genres from within my "Heroclix" collection at some point :-)
