"Khorne Is The Chaos God Of Warfare, Battle And Bloodshed."

"For his followers, war is no means to riches, lands or glory..."
These three 28mm plastic multi-part models have been assembled from sprues found inside the "Start Collecting!" Daemons Of Khorne set produced by “Games Workshop”, and were all based upon "Citadel" 32mm round bases so as to fit in with the rest of my Blades of Khorne "Age Of Sigmar" warhost. Armed with their formidable-looking Hellblades, all of the "finely detailed plastic" have been assembled using the instructions found within their box; albeit I did eventually need to buy an additional slithering forked tongue after I dropped one whilst super-gluing a figure together and simply couldn't find where it had gone...

Having finished building the models, each of the Blood God’s Slaughter-kin was given a double undercoat of “Vallejo” Heavy Red, extravagantly washed with "The Army Painter" Strong Tone Quickshade and dry-brushed with (more) “Vallejo” Heavy Red. Following on from this basic stage I then turned my attention to their “jagged” hand-weapons and primed them all with "Vallejo" Heavy Sienna before applying a double-layer of Gold over them.
"...War is an end in and of itself, a quest to spill blood and take skulls for their infernal lord."
These bright metallic swords were subsequently dulled down using "The Army Painter" Strong Tone Quickshade and had their keen edges 'highlighted' with a thorough dry-brush of (more) "Vallejo" Gold. This process allowed me to then ‘tidy up’ any frustrating splashes of “Vallejo” Gold I had inadvertently deposited on their horns, hands, hooves, spines and sword hilts with a little “Citadel” Abaddon Black.

In addition I used this opportunity to gently blend these blackened areas in with the rest of the Bloodletters' red coloured limbs and head. To finish the daemons off, I carefully picked out their sharp teeth using a combination of “Vallejo” White and “Citadel” Agrax Earthshade, and ‘spotted’ their eyes with a few dabs of “Vallejo” Heavy Ochre. Finally, I gave their tongues a base-coat of “Vallejo” Heavy Ochre and later drenched them in “Citadel” Reikland Fleshshade.
"Doctor Who" WIPs - A Slyther, Scibus the Silurian, and the first of three Krotons
Stepping away from the Mortal Realms, I have also been slowly progressing more miniatures manufactured by "Black Tree Design" as part of their "Doctor Who" range. To begin with I have dug out and primed a Slyther; a creature native to Skaro which "were occasionally utilised by the Daleks to act as guards at their installations."

The bizarre-looking monster is actually described on the "Tardis Data Core" website as being black in colour, but bearing in mind it appeared during William Hartnell's black and white TV tenure, I have always imagined the rubbery brute to be dark green. The Supreme Controller's pet should prove a reasonably straightforward figure to paint, so alongside it I am currently also working on the Silurian leader Scibus, and three armed Krotons...

  1. Though not a chaos fan to be honest, Khorne was always the faction I liked the best, and these have come out very nicely (nastily?), some really nice DW figs here to I've always loved the Krotons, one of my fav stories and monsters!

Good to be back as well, sir.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thanks very much indeed, Roger. I've still got three more Bloodletters to finish off before my current unit reaches twenty, and hope to have them done soon. Loads of "Doctor Who" to come, my good sir, as I really am in the time travelling mood currently.

  2. Some of the early Dr.Who is rather `dodgy' looking. Not as dodgy as the 1930's Flash Gordon rocket ships though. I like the silurian the best.

    1. Cheers Phil. I’m a big fan of the Scibus Silurian myself, as his costume was a complete Eighties redesign from the early Seventies version.

  3. More "Doctor Who" figures is always a pleasure to see, Simon. I am glad to see you are in your "time travelling mood" right now. Coincidentally, so am I. Expect a few "Doctor Who" posts on my own blog over the next week and beyond as I showcase my recent Warlord Games purchases.

    1. Thanks Bryan. I didn’t realise just how many different models “Black Tree Design” had churned out when they had the “Doctor Who” licence. I’ve a few “Warlord Games” models being progressed myself too, so I look forward to seeing your showcases in the near future :-)

    1. Cheers Wouter. Much appreciated. I’ve quite a gaggle of weird “Doctor Who” minis yet to paint and post this month, so hopefully you’ll enjoy some of the others I have waiting in the wings.

    1. Thanks Simon. This is a very exciting time for “Age of Sigmar” imho, what with the new Blades of Khorne book, new spells and the skirmish rule-set; albeit the upcoming expansion to “Kill Team” looks very distracting too. Certainly “Games Workshop” are going great guns currently, and I feel another month dedicated to them is going to be in order.

Sorry tantrum over. Never a big Chaos fan maybe I am missing out. Which takes noting away from your panting and finishing these models . Splendid job on them all.

    1. Cheers Clint. I’ve no probs with people disliking “GW” - each to their own :-) As to whether I think you’re missing out, well the imminent Khorne “Age of Sigmar” spell model releases look awesome, and should be heading to the top of my painting queue just as soon as I can get hold of them!! I’ve a few plans for “AoS” over the coming months as I’ve bought a few more Black Library audio books set there, and they always inspire me to paint more Chaos stuff up.
