"Look At The Size Of The Giant."

 "Andre is seven foot five."

This 70mm tall model of André René Roussimoff was created using "Elegoo" Water Washable Resin on a Mars 3 Pro 3D Printer, and is almost certainly based upon the old WWF Andre The Giant action figure by "Hasbro". Indeed, I actually ended up rescaling the original STL (Standard Triangle Language) file to 55% using "Chitubox" Basic in order to make the miniature more manageable, as well as (semi-successfully) help reduce the sculpt's poorly defined details and roughness.

The "inaugural inductee into the newly created WWF Hall of Fame" consisted of four separate pieces, and once assembled was plonked onto a "Citadel" 50mm circular plastic base. He was then primed with a couple of layers of "Vallejo" Heavy Skintone, shaded using plenty of "Citadel" Reikland Fleshshade, and dry-brushed with (more) "Vallejo" Heavy Skintone. As a final step for Andre's flesh, I subsequently applied a heavily-watered down wash of "Citadel" Reikland Fleshshade over him, and later 'picked out' his fingers and face with (more) "Vallejo" Heavy Skintone.

"The USS Constellation (NCC-1017) was a 23rd century Federation Constitution-class starship."

The Eighth Wonder of the World's boots, wrestling attire, hair and eyebrows were treated to some "Citadel" Abaddon Black. I did consider applying some "Vallejo" Heavy Sienna to Andre's hair and perhaps a dash of "Citadel" Nuln Oil. But, all the photographs of him that I used showed him having very dark hair - so in the end I decided to stick with the colour scheme used for his action figure.

In addition to this highly nostalgic trip down memory lane, I have also finished painting a second Terran F-5A Frigate. The two-piece starship was created using some "Bambu Lab" Matt White PLA (Polylactic Acid) on an A1 Mini 3D Printer, and can be purchased as an STL (Standard Triangle Language) file by "Fat Dragon Games" as part of the company's "Battlefront Valkyrie" Starter Set.

"The ship completed three five-year missions."

The spacecraft was undercoated using "Vallejo" Heavy Bluegrey and shaded with "Citadel" Nuln Oil. I then patiently dry-brushed it with (more) "Vallejo" Heavy Bluegrey, before 'picking out' the warp nacelles on its two propulsion units with a combination of "Scale 75" White Alchemy and "Citadel" Talassar Blue.

Unfortunately, another (much smaller) piece on the hot-plate at the time of the model's printing dramatically failed, and caused some of the plastic filament meant for it to slightly 'interfere' with the spacecraft's right flank. This caused the areas to look a little rough, so I decided to make them look like battle damage by dry-brushing them with a little "Citadel" Abaddon Black - similar to that seen on the Commodore Matthew Decker's U.S.S. Constellation in the 1967 "Star Trek" televised episode "The Doomsday Machine"...

  1. Well this takes me back though never a big WWF fan, I do of course remember the big stars like Hulk Hogan, Sting, Sargent Slaughter and of course Andre the giant. But I have to ask, what do you plan to do with him now?

    1. Thanks Roger. Sting was actually WCW - but both were eventually owned by Vince McMahon. I've managed to get hold of a few more of these 3D scans, so I plan to do a Heels Vs Babyface project with some homebrew rules.

  2. Don't know why that cut me off and sent that? Anyway do have a game in mind for him or just a display piece? I think him in his Pincess Bride costume might be more useful to me, but you never know where you're going to end up mate 😉
    Cheers Roger

    1. No worries Roger. The 3D prints are a bit of a pain to paint due to so much flesh, and them being so big - so any mistake is very visible. But I'm hoping to get enough painted for some silly 4vs4 skirmish stuff - probably in an urban setting, and have event cards, sudden interruptions etc which are WWF flavoured, etc.

  3. that Andre the Giant miniature brings a tear to my eye. reading about how you rescale it and such and whatnot, makes me think about somehow getting all the wrestlers that I grew up watching, or least my favorite ones (need least 30 of them, so I can have a Royal Rumble), 3D print them and use them for t he Rumbleslam tabletop game that TT Combat has.

    1. Thanks Mr. Martin. I'm a huge fan of the WWF during Andre's era, and regularly watch either one of the pay-per-views or weekly shows. I did look at the price of a 3D scanner, as a few people seem to be using them now to capture the likeness of old toy ranges etc. I have got some of the Rumbleslam miniatures as they do a fair few 'inspired' by old WWF wrestlers. But the fantasy elements put me off quite quickly.

    2. i have to admit the fantasy aspect was kinda meh, i was into it because it was a wrestling game. but i do like the mechanic of the dice and special moves and such.

    3. Good to know the game mechanics work well. I do own the ruleset somewhere. I was alright with Macho Man being a dwarf, and Undertaker being undead. But I recall being badly put off by Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior being orcs.

  4. Well, that mini came out of left field! You continue to amaze and delight with your diversity on this blog. He also looks really good. What a cracking paint job! Brilliant. Another starship? Blimey you must work in the Starfleet ship yards!

    1. Thanks Undercoat. I'm hoping to have a few more WWF wrestlers painted before the year is out - maybe enough for a tag-team game or some such. Lots more starships to come as I really want to use them to field some large-scale space battles with lots of vessels per side.
