"...Created in 1804 by Emperor Napoleon."
"Skilled at sharpshooting", the soldier was first undercoated in "Citadel" Abaddon Black, and had all of his leather straps, as well as trousers and shako covering, pigmented with a combination of "Two Thin Coats" White Star and some heavily watered-down "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade. I then carefully applied some "Vallejo" Sombre Grey to his greatcoat, shaded it with "Citadel" Nuln Oil, and later highlighted it back up with a little more "Vallejo" Sombre Grey.

"Games Workshop" WIPs - This second-hand Frodo Baggins is finally getting some love
With the first 'recruit' of my tiny, four-figure Voltigeur unit completed, I have spent some time digging through my backlog of half-finished projects looking for something contrastingly different to work on. One such model I found is an old 28mm metal miniature of Frodo Baggins by "Games Workshop" which I believe I picked up second-hand from a wargames show many, many moons ago.

"Crooked Dice Game Design Studio" WIPs - More Alien Legionnaries getting ready to be recruited
In addition, I have selected three more Alien Legionnaries by "Crooked Dice Game Design Studio" from my "7TV" collection to paint up as the Emperor Ming's minions from Mike Hodges' 1980 science fiction movie "Flash Gordon". As with the trio I've recently done, these miniatures had previously just been given a prime in "Vallejo" Heavy Red, so now need to have all their black straps, gold shoulder-pads and eye lenses properly 'picked out' before being tabletop ready...

Great work on the new French.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is a Frodo himself!
Thanks Michal. Lots of fiddly and colourful bits to pick out on the Voltigeur. I was rather surprised to find I had a 'proper' Frodo figure. So I may well look out for the rest of the hobbits in my LotR backlog in future.
DeleteGreat work on the Frenchman Simon, and nice progress on Frodo and Ming's minions. Reminds me I need to get on with the LOTR models to get them off my desk.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave. Not sure I want to paint too many Voltigeurs. Even with a greatcoat on there's tons of detail to spot. LOL!! Ohh... What LotR models do you have on your painting desk then? Are they classic old metals like mine, or do you have any of the new plastic models..?
DeleteTheir original metals or the old plastics, so there is characters on foot and on horse in metal, and some plastic Goblins and Uruk Hai
DeleteI look forward to seeing both painted up then Dave. Those original plastic Goblins were devilishly small as I remember. Hope your eyesight is good - or at least better than mine. LOL!!
DeleteNice work, Simon. Foundry do make some nice figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray. I do like their Napoleonic range, Ray. Ideally I'd like to paint every one of their blisters if I can. But I doubt I'll ever have the time to do that. Still, after three years I have finally painted enough Foundry to actually have my first game of Black Powder at long last. LOL!!
DeleteGood work mate, love the Voltigeur.
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Cheers Roger. One down and about twenty-three more to go, LOL!! Albeit I have actually finished a second Voltigeur which I hope to post up next week.
DeleteLiking that Frenchie. Interesting to see him not in traditional dark blues.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai. I do like the Voltigeur's white wet weather shako covering and grey great coat - although most of my French Foundry army for Black Powder are actually wearing grey great coats. LOL!!
DeleteYour voltiguer looks brilliant. I think the green and yellow really pop and you have done a great job getting such vibrant colours and picking all those details. More Lord of the Rings is nice to see and I am glad Sam is getting some company.
ReplyDeleteCheers Undercoat. The Voltigeurs are rather more time-consuming than I anticipated. But I should have the quartet needed for a tiny unit of skirmishers done soon. I'm definitely in a LotR mood currently - not sure why tbh - so expect more inhabitants of Middle Earth to follow.
