"The Krynoid Is An Uncontrollable Carnivore..."

"You mean you have a homicidal maniac on the loose?"
These two 28mm plastic “Wizards Of The Coast” models of a Gutsoup Golem are miniature number 23 from their “Dream Blade” Chrysotic Plague range, and will be used as Krynoid ‘Fatties’ for my Zomtober 2015 project “Doctor Who And The Seeds of Doom”.
"There's been an accident. One of the men has been infected."
The 50mm tall plant-zombies were initially given an undercoat of “Vallejo” Heavy Grey in order to ‘mask’ their grisly raw meat coloured pre-paint, and were then haphazardly washed with “Citadel” Thrakka Green and “The Army Painter” Strong Tone Quickshade. Once finished each of the monsters was dry-brushed with some more “Vallejo” Heavy Grey and then had their eyes, as well as some pollen sacs and roots, painted using either Heavy Kakhi, Heavy Sienna or Heavy Red. All of these areas were then given an appropriate “Citadel” coloured wash such as Carroburg Crimson or Thrakka Green, before receiving a final dry-brush of “Vallejo” Heavy Grey.
Harrison Chase WIP - Once the face and hair have been painted, this villain should be almost finished.
As I have just one or two more posts left to my Zomtober 2015 project I have been pressing on with a few models I really need to finish before I play my end-of-month “Doctor Who And The Seeds of Doom” inspired “Zombicide” game. In particular I've been concentrating on these few remaining “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” miniatures I want to use as ‘Runners’ and the main villain of the piece himself, Harrison Chase. As a result I'm already dry-brushing some of these 'infected' security guards' tendrils and thorns, as well as putting the final touches to the millionaire botanist's face, shirt, tie and buttons.

  1. You're making good progress, Simon. Harrison Chase looks every inch the arch-villain. He just exudes arrogance and menace.

    1. Thanks Bryan. Now the last of my 'full' Krynoids are finished (for now at least), its nice to painting something a little more human for a while. Harrison Chase is indeed a nice straightforward villain. Though I'm still undecided as to whether to use him as a 'Survivor' or maniacal 'Runner'..?

    1. Thanks C6. Just a few more days to be sure. But I think I've enough plant-zombies to go around ;-)

  5. Looking forward to seeing all these utilised in a battle report sir.

Forgot to ask - are you excited for Warlord Games' own Dr Who minis game that they are working on?

    1. Thanks Dai. I'm in two minds about it tbh. I like many of the not-Dr Who minis out there (even some "Black Tree Design" ones. But a nice rule-set and some well-sculpted official minis of the latest episodes must be a good thing, right?

  6. those Gutsoups have actually turned out even better than I thought they would. The y are really stunningly good Simon. The other mini's are going well as well it seems. But where is SJS?

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Cheers Roger. I'm delighted with the way they turned out and especially glad I made the leap of faith to pick out some of their sacs and tendrils etc. SJS is getting some attention I assure you. But I want to get a couple more Runners finished first.

  7. I do like what you've done with your Krynoid fatties - they're excellent and I especially like how different parts on each one makes them look like different figures. And Harrison Chase is a lovely figure. 'Runner' or 'Survivor' though...Could you make a house rule where he's a survivor who will happily sacrifice other survivors to save himself? That would fit in with his character - not familiar enough with the rules to know how that would work though..

    1. Many thanks for suggesting them Jez. If I use Chase as a Survivor I was simply going to give him the Slippery skill; which allows him to escape any Krynoid at his location easily whilst leaving any team-mates present to fend for themselves :-)

  8. It's all coming together very nicely, Simon. Chase looks suitably dastardly.
