"Once Hissing Sid, An Evil Snake, Kept The Woodland Folk Awake..."

"...In fear and trembling every night, in case he gave someone a bite."
This 28mm metal model of Slisssk The Adder is produced by “Oathsworn Miniatures", and was part of the company's recent "Rogues And Vagabonds" Kickstarter. Disappointingly, the figure isn't currently available to buy on their website, but I was lucky enough to pick him up, labelled as an Adder Warrior, at "Salute" 2018.

Due to the deadly serpent wearing heavy armour the figure was inititally primed "Citadel" Chaos Black and subsequently coated with two layers of Ironbreaker. He was then washed with Nuln Oil, before being dry-brushed with (more) Ironbreaker.
Shrew Warrior WIPs - The tiny fighter has had his shield, sword, armour and helmet 'picked out'
The venomous snake's flesh was carefully painted using "Vallejo" Heavy Brown and the numerous leather straps tying his protective plate sheets to his slithering body were 'picked out' with "Heavy Sienna". Both of these areas were then washed with "The Army Painter" Strong Tone Quickshade.

I did strongly consider applying some sort of typical dark-coloured reptilian pattern over the carnivore's skin, but as so little was showing I decided against such a move. As a last step however, I dabbed some "Vallejo" Heavy Ochre over the poisonous Adder's glaring eyes, and in order to hopefully make them really stand out I didn't subsequently shade them as I ordinarily do.
Karsus The Chained WIPs - The Khorne warrior has had his infamous hand-weapon finished
With the first of my nefarious Northymbran wrongdoers done, I've already set about applying some pigments to my warband's second mischievous malefactor, a Shrew Warrior. This wonderfully characterful sculpt has really caught my imagination, and I'm already considering utilising a tiny garrison of these diminutive fighters as the protectors of the Squire of Shrewsbury...

Despite having such fun with this range of anthropomorphic animals, I am somehow still managing to also maintain my focus upon the remaining plastic miniatures I need to complete so as to field "Garrek's Reavers" for "Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire". Having finished all the fiddly belt buckles, straps and brass armour on Karsus The Chained, I am hoping to have the "Game Workshop" Khorne worshipper completed before too much longer.

  2. Oh, the bravest animals in the land are Captain Beaky and his...shrew? That snake is lovely. Great sculpt and the paint job is ace, brings it to life wonderfully. The shrew looks awesome too, colour scheme looks perfect, I like the blue in particular. Great job on these minis. The Reavers are coming along nicely, keep going as I can't wait to see the unit as a whole. Great postpost, now I just have to get that tune out of my head!

  3. The armoured adder is a great figure and I particularly like how you've painted its eyes. The shrew warrior looks good and I look forward to seeing him finished. You're off to a good start on your "Burrows and Badgers" project. More please!

    1. Thanks very much Bryan, much appreciated. It's easy to paint these "Burrows & Badgers" minis currently as they're such great sculpts. Really pleased I stumbled across this range at "Salute" 2018.

  4. I love that snake, that is a great mini, and you've painted him up wonderfully too, the shrew is also a cracker, what a great little range this is, I having to fight looking at their website!

Nice work too on the GW figure, that will be an impressive unit once completed.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Cheers Roger. I really recommend having a look at the "Oathsworn Miniatures" website, as you only 5-6 minis for a warband and the sculpts are awesome. This could be my surprise game of 2018. I'll be really pleased when I've finished my Blood Reavers as "AoS" is really taking off again this year with a new 2nd edition, so expect plenty of postings throughout the year.

  6. Great looking adder and what a tease to inform us we can't buy him! It would be a great alternative to my huge cheap plastic snakes!
    Reavr coming along great too.
Your "anthropomorphic animal", no matter how well painted, leaves me cold...

    1. Cheers Joe. Thoroughly enjoying my "Burrows & Badgers" currently, so you'll need to wear a woolly jumper for future postings, as I've a few more yet to post ;-)

  7. I cannot get my head right with Badgers and Burrows, but that is my hang up not yours! What you have done is well executed and the Hissing Sid Comment took me back not heard that name for years!

  11. I'm almost tempted to get some anthropomorphic warriors after seeing posts like this, perhaps for a novelty Frostgrave warband? But I'll stay strong :-) ...

    1. Well I've at least one more finished "Burrows & Badgers" mini, Hugh, so I'll try and ramp up the pressure. Great idea using them as a "Frostgrave" warband :-)

  12. That Adder is indeed a nifty little beggar. I went to their site today during lunch and saw that most of their range seemed to be "Out of Stock". Which is a great thing for my wallet.

    1. Thanks Dai. I think "Oathsworth Miniatures" are enjoying a lot of post-"Salute" 2018 publicity currently, with "Burrows & Badgers" getting quite a bit of blog/FB attention in my 'neck of the woods'.
