"...A Space Marine could reach during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy era in the Legiones Astartes." |
Unfortunately, the figure also required me to glue an old severed head (I believe from a Nurgle Plague Bearer's sprue) onto his right hip, so as to cover up a slight misalignment with the HQ Choice's large cloak. This was entirely due to my using the aforementioned "Forge World" shoulder-pad than any actual issue with the twenty-seven piece kit, and seemed to work out rather well. I also took the opportunity not to use the head supplied, but rather use a much more Roman Centurion-looking one from my bitz box.

"Praetors were commanders second only to their Primarchs in skill, battle prowess, and intellect in their respective Legions." |
I also gave all the parts of the Praetor destined to be "Vallejo" Gold with a lick of Heavy Sienna first, and then once they had been 'hit' with the metallic colour, sploshed them with "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade. All these various details, most notably the Space Marine's shoulder-pads, forearms and shin-guards were subsequently dry-brushed with (more) "Vallejo" Gold.

"Wargames Foundry" WIPs - This Napoleonic Austrian Jaeger is almost finished |
Sticking with time-consuming, fiddly figures, I have also managed to make some progress on a pair of 28mm metal Napoleonic Austrians by “Wargames Foundry", which have been loitering about my hobby desk for far too long. These identical sculpts can be found inside blister AN038 Jaegers 1805-15 Running, and once finished will give me a four-man strong skirmish unit for my slowly increasing Coalition force...
Nice figures Simon. Good to see more Napoleon's.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray. I've miles behind my Napoleonic goal for this year. But I have managed to already finish one of these Jaegers, so hopefully I'll have this pair of Austrians ready for the tabletop soon.
DeleteFinally the Praetor is finished! I've been waiting on that one. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd he looks very imposing in amongst all the rest of those super mutant warriors from 30'000 years in the future.
Cheers Dai. That's my 500-point Sons of Horus force finished at last. LOL!! Now I'm planning some opposition - albeit a Legion I can also ally with my SoH if I wanted to play bigger games.
DeleteExcellent work on the Son of Horus! Shame about the mucking around you had to go through to get the cloak to work but he's turned out really well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. It's been a bit of a journey with this figure. But he's finally finished, and should soon see some tabletop action as a result.
DeleteWell that has come out very nicely! very fancy armour, he'd be easy to pick out in the line, he'll be popular with the snipers wont he! 😉
ReplyDeleteLooks great though, smashing bit of painting mate, and also another "Nappy" figure too, all credit to you for still plodding on with that project too mate.
Cheers Roger.
Cheers Roger. I'm hoping to start some small Horus Heresy BatReps soon, so wanted to get my 500-point starter force finally finished. The Praetor is the same cost as an entire 10-man squad of space marines, so I hope he can't just get popped by a sniper as you say, LOL!!! The Austrian Jaeger is already finished too, so I'm a roll with my Napoleonic project. LOL!!
DeleteAlways nice to see Horus Heresy minis, despite GW completely destroying my enthusiasm for the game with their lying and gaslighting over the launch of 3rd edition. I really like your praetor and that group shot shows what a bit big he is!
ReplyDeleteAlways a treat to see Napoleonics! Any nations you haven't painted yet?
Thanks Undercoat. The Praetor is definitely a heck of a lot bigger than the old Horus Heresy marines GW used to sell when they were just doing First Born Astartes. LOL!! I haven't actually finished any British redcoats yet. So they're certainly on my list for future units.
