"...Fight with a singular unity that can bring a foe many times their size..." |
The quartet of canines were all primed using a couple of licks of "Vallejo" Sombre Grey, drenched in "Citadel" Nuln Oil, and dry-brushed with (more) "Vallejo" Sombre Grey. I then gave each beast's legs, belly, throat and maw a few heavy brushstrokes of "Two Thin Coats" White Star, shaded these areas with plenty of "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade, and subsequently dry-brushed them with (more) White Star by "Two Thin Coats".

"...Making them formidable allies." |
As a final step I dotted each Wolves eyes and noses with some pure "Citadel" Abaddon Black, and traced out their fangs with a combination of White Star by "Two Thin Coats" and "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade. This actually made all the pack look a bit toothless to me. So I quickly went back with my brush-tip and ensured each miniature was sporting a few more teeth than appeared to have been sculpted on them.

"Crooked Dice Game Design Studio" WIPs - Two Mast Beasts |
In addition to my Wolves, I have also managed to make some progress on a pair of Mast Beasts by "Crooked Dice Game Design Studio". Like so many metal miniatures I seem to be painting these days, I plan to use this pair as 'random encounters' for any of my "Silver Bayonet" monster hunters unlucky enough to encounter a ghost or two. I actually hope to squeeze a fair few sculpts from Karl Perrotton's Folk Horror range into my painting queue over the next few months, as I greatly expand my gothic horror bestiary...
Wolfs are pretty cool looking. I think these would be great for fantasy through some historical games and dnd too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai. Simple colour scheme. But I wanted one so that I could crank out ten in a reasonably short space of time. I have got some painted Frostgrave Wolves somewhere. However, as they have snow bases I thought I'd paint some more with my usual static grass stands.
DeleteI really dislike Warlord Games and their product generally. They do seem to drop ranges very quickly. I guess it was not selling like the large scale Doctor Who figures etc. Simon
ReplyDeleteHi Simon. Yeah, I've been burnt too many times by WG in recent years now - Strontium Dog, Slaine, Dr Who, Mythic Americas, Beyond the Gates Of Antares, and ABC Warriors. That's why I'm working through just the figures I already own these days - for the versions of the rulesets I own, & not buying any more of their stuff.
DeleteI was at Attack in Devizes last Saturday. Their stand was basically empty of anyone buying or even looking at their products. They are truly the Games Workshop of normal gaming. Warlord seem to be getting a bad reputation amongst some. Their range decision making and scale choices are pretty poor at the end of the day. The different scales are just a ploy to sell ‘their’ product and their product alone. It’s not really working for them is it. Game of Cruel Sea’s anyone? I thought not…. Simon
DeleteI certainly don't give their stall a second look at shows nowadays. I'd actually love a game of Cruel Seas having pre-ordered the starter box when it first came out. But like so many other of their ranges it seemed to be quickly replaced by another of their systems - which is why my box is still sealed. LOL!! I have enjoyed their Open Days in the past though. But didn't go last year because I was fed up with a lack of support for the WG games I own. Not sure I'll attend this year's either if they have one...
