Initially undercoated using a couple of layers of "Vallejo" Heavy Red, the troopers were each given a positive drenching in "Citadel" Carroburg Crimson, before being dry-brushed with (more) "Vallejo" Heavy Red. The guards then had all of their leather straps and belts carefully 'traced out' with a little bit of "Citadel" Abaddon Black, and their belt buckles/shoulder epaulettes subsequently were tackled using a combination of "Vallejo" Gold and "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade.

I did consider applying some "Vallejo" Gunmetal to all the face-mask lenses and blaster rifles - even applying a metallic coat to one of the hand-weapons. But I soon settled upon sticking to my original plan of just dotting in the semi-circular eyes and shading them with "Citadel" Nuln Oil, and making the guns pure Abaddon Black so as to better match the plain black film props.

| "Wargames Foundry" WIPs - Three French Napoleonic Line Artillerymen |
However, I recently won a spate of auctions for several French cannons by "Wargames Foundry" on "eBay", so thought I better try and complete a couple of miniatures from their FN317 - Line Artillery In Campaign Dress set before they arrived. In addition, it should help me work out just how many men I want manning my field guns - as the set only contains seven actual artillerymen, and I will own eleven cannons - so at some point I'm going to need to purchase a couple more blisters even if I whittle down my crew size to just three or four models...

Oh, really great miniatures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal. I've got a load more to do. But this is a good start.
DeleteGreat work on Ming's Minions Simon, the different red on the gloves does make them appear to be different to the robes, I thought you had finished all the ones you had, so was a surprise to see this trio.
ReplyDeleteProbably a good idea to get on with some Cannon crew, if you have that many more coming ! LOL
Cheers Dave. I've actually found a fair few of these particular sculpts in my Crooked Dice backlog, so I've hooked a load more out to paint up. Having had a good mooch at the Foundry website, there's actually a number of different cannon crew sets for the French, so I don't think I will need to buy any duplicate sets - especially if I can split each seven-figure blister between two guns.
DeleteThose Mingy minions, have come out very nice, that was a great film! Cheers Roger
ReplyDeleteThanks Roger. Definitely one of my all-time fave films. I have a fair few more minions to do too, so there's already another trio on my painting table being worked on. LOL!!
DeleteI love the Ming blokes! Really makes me want to go and watch that flick again. Good childhood memories.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dai. I've currently got another trio on the painting table, and found a few more untouched ones in a plastic baggie - so I'll doubtless try to churn them all out over the coming months.
DeleteYou are really knocking out minis at a furious pace at the moment. 3 Ming Troopers! They look really good, very eye catching and they will really stand out on the tabletop. I really like those Napoleonic artillery crew, they look like fantastic sculpts.
ReplyDeleteThanks Undercoat. I have another trio of Ming's minions to finish off - and then I've spotted a load more untouched in a box. LOL!! I'm hoping to get the artillery crew finished quite soon - as I have a horde of French cannon arriving via eBay thanks to some auctions I've just won. LOL!!
