I've also enlarged them both using "Chitubox" Basic, as I wanted to make Bill Thornhill's corpulent creations match up size-wise with the science fiction miniatures I've previously produced by "Papsikels Miniatures". This basically meant I upscaled the figures by 108.41% (something I repeatedly refer to as 'Arnie size') using the eye-level and dimensions of their Colonist Marine Cyborg Hero E-900 Exterminator STL as a guide.

I next applied some "Vallejo" Gunmetal to their zippers, eye holes, ear protectors and mouth guards, before darkening the areas down with plenty of "Citadel" Nuln Oil. Their flesh was tackled using a layer of "Vallejo" Heavy Skintone and dash of "Citadel" Biel-Tan Green. I did attempt to give one of the models some suitably red lips. However, I simply didn't like how this looked on my figure, so ended up simply painting over them.

In addition to my two 3D prints, I have also completed another of the 32mm resin NASA Astronauts produced by "Black Site Studios" I received as part of my Lunar Core Game pre-order way back in July 2021. Essentially, the miniature was undercoated with "Two Thin Coats" Celestial Blue, drenched in "Citadel" Drakenhof Nightshade, and dry-brushed with (more) "Two Thin Coats" Celestial Blue, before I 'picked out' his firearm with "Vallejo" Gunmetal and "Citadel" Nuln...
The two Vulgorn's look great Simon, as does the astronaut, what colours are you planning for the other two factions, to distinguish them ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. I do like the Vulgorn Guards, as they're nice chunky sculpts to paint. I haven't completely decided on the Chinese or Japanese spacesuit colours yet. I might do green with some red on the taikonauts and maybe a pinkish colour with white helmets for the Japanese.
DeleteIt's a tough one, had thought you might have gone with white suits and red helmets to symbolise the rising sun flag for the Japanese, but then thought if you were going to do white suits you would have done that for the Americans as that is the normal NASA colours, shall be interesting to see what you go with in the end.
DeleteI'm saving the all-white for the British astronauts - which I have ordered from Black Site Miniatures - I'm just waiting on them to post them. I might do a pale yellow for Japan with red helmets, as that might look good..?
DeleteOh, how I love your cosmic projects!
ReplyDeleteLovely work!
Cheers Michal. I'm slowly ploughing through the astronauts, with plenty more to come too.
DeleteArmed astronauts and some of my fav character designs from the HHGttG! Very cool Simon, very very cool.
ReplyDeleteWith the sheer amount of minis you preview here and ongoing projects that you work on I suspect you have the "gamer's/hobbyist's dream" of storage solutions for all that metal and plastic.
Thanks Dai. Most of my backlog is sadly stuck in large plastic boxes in the garage and loft. My actual gaming forces are scattered throughout dozens of single tier organisers, which let me just pick up a squad and march off to the garage for a game.
DeleteTwo more great looking Vulgorns. Really excellent looking minis that look very striking in your paint scheme. How many have you got painted now?
ReplyDeleteAnother terrific spaceman too. The blue versus red will look very impressive on the tabletop I think.
Cheers Undercoat. I think the black leather straps and grey jumpsuit don't show up all that well in the pics. They're definitely more noticeable in the flesh. I've just got four Vulgorns painted currently, with a few more in the queue. I think you'll definitely not struggle to separate the Russians from NASA on my Lunar tabletop. LOL!!
